the way they're designed, you'll need to adhere them if you want to easily remove/insert the tops with the shades staying on all the time. without the shades being stuck with the velcro (or something else) it takes more time sandwiching the shades in between and getting it all positioned right when putting on the tops. which is okay if you don't take them off much. but it gets to be really annoying when you take them off all the time
I rarely if ever take off the shades so that doesn't bother me.

yeah, i know what you mean. they're not a problem at all if you never take them off, or if you rarely remove them. when the weathers right i take them off all the time, like daily/several times a day, so it got a little old.
