Default Question on t-top shades

Is it true the factory units are held on by velcro that's 3M taped to the t-top itself? I figured with extreme heat it would come undone, but that looks like how it's done. I am looking to get some so I have nothing to reference previously.

There are two "velcro" Dots on each T-Top near the inner portion of the Shades / Top The outter edge, the T-Top shade slips into the plastic on the T-Top itself and the other side is velcroed into place using these dots, When you have it lined up perfect you will not see any seams between the Shades and the Headliner.

I have the dots, but the shades aren't actually on the tops. I never really thought about it. I always put the shades on the car and then slid the tops on top of them. I feel like a retard now. Time to get some velcro or some tape stuff. wow unbelievable

as others have mentioned, they do indeed simply stay on using two velcro dots.

I myself ran into the issue you mentioned with heat. Over time i went through like 4 sets of velcro, as they kept detatching from the glass due to the heat. Mine are currently painted. got rid of all the hassle, looks great, as if it came that way, and can easily be removed within 5-10 minutes should i ever need to. and it looks better from the outside than the shades ever did.

I have those dots on my shades also with the tape still covering them. Never wanted to put them on the t-tops because i like riding with the shades off and dont want to two see dots on each t-top whenever I look up. Inless its really hot and my car will be sitting outside thats when i will put the shades on.

I got these for my mom last Christmas. She loves them. She says they totally help in keeping a lot of the heat out. They just slip right underneath the t-tops. No Velcro thingies needed.

I bought some used and they didn't have the velcro. They haven't fallen off yet and they seem to be really sturdy on there, so I don't really think they need it.

^how do they stay on when the t-tops are removed if they're not stuck on by velcro? glue?

the way they're designed, you'll need to adhere them if you want to easily remove/insert the tops with the shades staying on all the time. without the shades being stuck with the velcro (or something else) it takes more time sandwiching the shades in between and getting it all positioned right when putting on the tops. which is okay if you don't take them off much. but it gets to be really annoying when you take them off all the time

*Shrugs* It takes me all of three seconds to do mine. My velcro let go of the top way before I got it. Never has a hard time hanging on.

Well, yeah. It adds about another 30 seconds to taking the tops off. You'd have to pull out the shade, then take off the t-top. Then do the same for the other side.

My wife has hers in all the time but like others, I opted to not use the velcro attached to the glass because i didn't want to look up and see two dots either with them out...

mine have the velcro on the shades but its not stuck to the t top.

i used to with one hand hold the shade and the other to hold the top when taking out and putting them in.

now i'll put the shade in first, and then slide the top over.

just to clarify, i'm talking about the GM shades, not specialized stainless's, which are a different design and do seem to be easier to use.

If the owner never installed the t-tops shades you won't have the dots. From the factory, the shades came with both sides of the velcro on and you removed the wax paper, stuck them on the t-top in the right spot and then when you removed the shades the first time it left behind the one side of the velcro.
