My passenger side has a crack about an inch long, but luckily it isn't cracked all the way through yet. I'll fix it in the next few days. Great writeup.

Sorry if i sound dumb, but is this only an issue with Pontiac f-bodies? I have Camaros, a '94 (which sadly has probably never seen a garage in its day) and a '00 and neither of them have this problem.

Thanks for the info. Ive gotten the staples out and zip tied the crack. Heres where Im stuck. Im having trouble securing the felt back to the door panel with the large paper clips. Is there another method for putting the top piece back together?

I believe it is only late 4th gen Firebird door panels (maybe only Trans Ams, at that). My dad swapped a door from an early 4th into his T/Am, and he told me it wouldn't crack.

Yes, ..., Read this thread thoroughly.
I used small bolts with nylock nuts on a pair that I did.

Supposedly it couldn't be done with completely cracked door panels, yet I was able to do it on a buddies car.

Has anyone else ran into the issue of the felt not resting all the way down like it did before you removed the staples? I ended up using small zip ties to re attach the felt to the panel, but it sits up higher than it did before...

I did the same thing however, instead of the zip tie to pull it back, i just let it pull back naturally once the staples were out. Then I backed it with two part plastic epoxy. Now even when I try to see it, I can't anymore lol.

I got a small drill bit and widened the holes from the old staples, then had some spare electric fence wire around I bent to hold it tight. Make sure whatever you use that it has a bit of room to move or it will just pull the crack apart again.

Hot whip, this method worked with the completely cracked panel just with some wire mesh? I have the epoxy already.

Also, just an observation, but this isn't a common problem with LT1 cars. I've seen some TRASHED lt1 interiors that didn't have this problem, in fact, I've never seen an LT1 car with this problem to my recollection. Its been speculated on here before that sometime in 1998 GM switched plastic providers and the result is the junk plastic that cracks easy (same for ash trays, center console pieces, dashs, ect on ls1 cars).

Perhaps if you've got trashed interior pieces, you could find a matching interior from an LT1 car in a junkyard and take pieces you need.

Just a thought.

The interior color of the LT1 years and LS1 years are different.

They switched to ebony in 2000 or 2001 I think (from graphite), but the tan was the same from 93-02 iirc.
