Problems polishing TT2s

Problems polishing TT2s
I havent had much of a chance to keep up with them looking good. Had a some snow and they salted the roads. Now the tt2s look like crap. I bought some mothers mag polish to clean them up. Got all the ruff surfaces out(bumps) but it still has this cloudy haze. Kind of like water marks. I polished as hard as could by hand and still its cloudy. Any tips and tricks. Now i understand why keeping tt2 looking good is a hard. TIA

Re: Problems polishing TT2s
I just ordered the artisans metal polish from POR15, it's supposed to be excellent, I'll let you know in a few days.
In the meantime, here are some excellent products, I've used all three and they work extremely well.

Re: Problems polishing TT2s
I did the same thing to my TTIIs last winter. I spent a good 10 hours with a buffer and Wenol metal polish (this summer) and they look 'OK' but not nearly as good as they used to. I have them off the car now, running the stock wheels this winter. Gonna try sanding them down with fine grit sandpaper or maybe I'll just send them off to be refinished. They are all pitted (like deep pits) and cloudy like you say. If I ever get them shiny again, they are getting about 50 coats of clearcoat on them. Or maybe even chrome plated. Bare aluminum wheels on daily driver == bad news.

I know how u feel Barry.
My Welds look like ***...
IMO chrome is the only way to go unless u clean your TT2's and then powder coat/clear coat them.

Re: Problems polishing TT2s
You need something with more grit in it at first. See if you can find someplace that carries Wenol they have a rough grit and a fine grit. Sart with the rough grit and spend alot of time hand polishing till you get alot of black residue on the rag. Then wipe that off and go to the fine grit and spend alot of time hand polishing with that. It will take a few hours but they will look good again, the more black residue you get the better your polish job will look. I have had alot of polished wheels and they always shine great. Hand polishing is the best way to get a good shine. If you still have your factory wheels i would run them in the winter or you will have to polish on a regualr basis. hope this helps.

A little $$ (about $90 per wheel) will save you lots of work down the line.. Just an idea..

I ordered the cleaning kit from American Racing. Comes with a polish and sealer. The polish seems to work really well (although I am not trying to get your type of stains out) and then they to say to let it set up for an hour then follow with the sealer. They claim the sealer will protect the wheels for 4-6 weeks and then you just put a fresh coat of sealer on when you wash the car. Worth a try.
