3157 and 194 if you get red LEDs they will be brighter than just clear ones.
superbrightleds.com has a large selection and that is where I got mine from. I also have VHT tail lights so I needed brighter bulbs

I really like these housings for the tail lights minus the horrendous slot they have for the reverse bulb. LED Tail Lights
These would look great with some LEDs in em and some VHT on em.

I have LEDS in my reverse and brake lamps. 3157 for the brake lamps. The only issue with LED brakes is that there is not a distinct difference between the brightness of the running lights and brake lights at night. I disabled the running lights for the 3157s, so they only light up when I press the brakes. The outer 194s are now my running lights, which makes the brakes more distinct at night. I also added chrome vinyl to the brake and reverse lamp reflectors to get more light (worked pretty well).

These are the best ones on ebay at the moment. I have similar ones from another ebay company that doesn't have anymore listed, but these are are just as bright:

Superbright doesn't have leds that are as bright as these. Its not the best website to go to for exterior lighting, although they do have an excellent interior lighting selection.

I cut pieces of vinyl to fill out the reflectors inside the tail lamps to improve lighting. I installed the pieces through the bulb mounting holes.

I can't take pics of the vinyl installed without taking apart the tail light. The first pic is the outlines I made on a spare tail light and other is of the pieces laid out in the proper shape, so you can imagine what they would look like on the inside. I did the same thing to the reverse lights, which improved visibility. The chrome finish vinyl reflects light better than whatever silver paint GM used on the inside

NOTE: I purchased the 12x12 chrome vinyl sheet on ebay.

Nope. I installed the pieces, one by one, through the bulb mounting hole.

You could also use a set of 3457 bulbs as they are a little brighter than the factory 3157 bulbs.

I prefer LEDS b/c I like the color and the instant on-off. They also help to avoid warped lenses.

No pics side by side, but I can tell you they are not as bright as stock when the brakes are applied unless you have tinted tails.

Cadillac does the chrome backing on tail lights from the factory. Always thought it was pretty sweet.
