Default MTi Lid owners come in

thinking about getting a Mti clear lid. Now i was thinking about getting the FTP 85mm,95mm(bigger one),but was wondering if it would rub on my hood. I've got a show car so I dont to F'up my paint. so with that said should I go with the normal size or the 85mm? Also who has the cheapest price on them?

The clear lid definitely has issues. I don't know if they have corrected it, but it is made from a very fragile material and cracks overtime. I had to epoxy mine. My friends SLP lid seems to be made out of a more durable black plastic, not sure why they didn't use a better material for the clear MTI lids.

I've got the 98mm FTP clear airlid. It didn't rub with the hood closed until the car was running and the motor moving around. The 98mm version replaced the 85mm so it is the same size I don't know why the marketed it differently. A 4" silicone hose fits perfectly over the outside diameter of the airlid and the outside diameter of my nick williams 92mm tb. It couldn't be a better fit. As far as the lid rubbing there is a few things you can do to make it fit. One is to cut down the bottom of the air lid support base so it sits lower on the frame and radiator, thus bringing the lid with it. You can adjust the hood supports so it sits a little high as well. But I like to have my hood and fender lines perfect so I left those alone. Another I have read is to elongate the 4 10mm bolt holes that attach the air lid support base so it sits further towards the firewall. I haven't tried either of these methods yet fwiw. If I were to try one I would cut down the base of the air lid support base but my dremel isn't going to work with the weak disks I have for it right now.

I was under that impression too. I looked everywhere with no luck, then one day i was messing around on there site and saw it. I figured they forgot to take it down or something so i ordered it just incase. 2 days later it showed up! I'll try and get it put on sometime this week so i can report back to the original topic.

But here's a question, what do you guys do if your lid rubs? Just let it rub?

Here's an update:

Decided to throw the (MTI clear) lid on my car today. Car has been parked for the past month so I haven't driven it for awhile. The lid seemed to fit perfectly compared to some stories I've heard. Only issue at the moment was there is no hole for the sensor that's suppose to go in the side of the lid. I'll probably drill a hole myself.

I can't tell if it's hitting currently. It didn't sound like anything is hitting when i shut the hood. I haven't started it yet either to see if it touches from the twist and vibration of the motor. I figured i'd do that when i had more time to fit the sensor. I hope this helps you. As others have said, i thought they had stopped production of these until I saw them on a site. I don't know if they made these thicker and changed the molds to make them stronger or not but this one seems pretty solid. If you have any questions go ahead and ask.

-Matt

I have an OEM SS hood and i can't tell as of yet if it rubs, but like it said my cars up for winter so i won't be able to tell under normal driving conditions till spring . As of now though, i see no scuffs from where the hood has shut.

I had the FTP 98mm clear lid on my SS and it did rub. It wasn't to bad though but, at the time I was pretty upset. Its now on my Trans Am and dose not rub at all with a non WS6 hood.

You can see it in the buldge.
