Default Whistler mod ?'s

Ok first off sorry for dragging this up from the dead and two I know it's not an fbdoy but just a quick question I'm going to do the clear light mod on my headlights and since I've got them tore apart I want to do the whistler mod any opinions and two how much light is lost if I paint the whole light not just part? Keep in mind I'm running 8000k HID's so it's pretty bright

The higher you go past about 6k HID's, the more light you loose actually. As far as painting the whole headlight itself, I would imagine you would loose light instead of gain or stay the same as you would if you were to leave them alone. This is me thinking off the top of my head and trying to imagine it. But for the HID's, the "bluer" the light, the less the light is emitted onto the road. That's why I personally went with a 6k HID kit cause I wanted function over style. And I don't want you to think I'm bashing what you have or what you trying to do or thinking about doing. I'm just trying to let off what I know and can imagine.

^ Don't worry man, I'm the same way about the impatient stuff as well. When I went to order HID's, I went with one, the company that could get them to me the fastest and out of them, who had the best customer reviews, lol. I wanted to try something different than the DDM's that everyone else has and with the ones I have, I couldn't be happier. But for the lights, they are bright as hell when your looking at them but when there shining out there not as bright as say a lower K kit would be. I was told to think of it like this and I know this may sound dumb and childish but if you think about it, its kinda true but take a solid black piece of paper and get coloring pencils that look closely to all the HID bulb colors, then take and shade in portions of the paper and see which one you can see better and thats what it would simulate on the road.

Doesn't affect light output if you got HIDs.

If you are talking about painting all the reflective material it will hurt light out put, even if you have hids I still think it would hurt your output, that reflects light, paint it and it won't,I think they would look better all black though,

I think that is because it kills light output a lot,not sure with hids but I would think there would be the same effect

if you paint the reflective part your lights wont shine forward. i did it and had to buy new lights because i used high temp rtv to seal them and the lenses are now on for good.

What do the lights look like on your truck? If you paint them right you will not notice any loss in light output. If you leave the main chrome reflector which focuses the light down the road you will be fine. Post a pic of the lights and I can let you know what areas to paint. I painted the headlights on my grand prix which has crappy light output from the factory and the painted ones have the same amount of light output as stock. You can PM me to so I can let you know.

A friend of mine did the Whistler mod not too long ago and it looks great! He's also running 6k HIDs and has got plenty of light.
