I threw away the stock mini spare. I have 13" front brakes and it didnt fit. So i have a full size 18" wheel as a spare for long trips .

my car has the stock spare and for now I'm keeping it.

it's worn out though, amazingly. I really wonder how long you have to drive on a spare tire to wear it bald lol.

If I upgrade my brakes I'll have to ditch it I imagine. my vette didn't have a spare, but it had runflats.. and I certainly needed them. 2 flats in 5 months on that car. at $450 a tire too. I try not to leave home on anything more than a trip to the store without a spare in anything I drive.

I keep the stock spare in at all times. Doesn't weigh much and isn't in the way at all. Hell I forget I even have it sometimes lol.

If you dd, you should. If i have my spare on me I can get out, change and be on my way to a flat fix place in 15 minutes. Why put yourself in a place when you are waiting for a tow for something simple as a flat tire. I get a kick out of it when people call a tow truck to get a battery boost instead of asking someone or calling a cab for $5.

If you have C5 or bigger front brakes on the front, the spare won't fit. AFAIK, running the spare on the rear could cause excessive wear on a posi.

So, for a good many f-body owners on here, the factory spare might just be dead weight.

rotate a front to the rear, put spare on front. unless you have big brakes, of course.

i daily'd my 240sx without a spare for a while. 140 miles per day is scary when your cords are showing!
(didnt have a spare because the car was 4 lug, i converted to 300z 5 lug)

Been debating about whether to remove it or not. It's kinda dead weight, but at the same time, it could be a life saver should a situation occur.

At the same time, if you've got AAA, or similar coverage, with free pickup/fix, you could get away with it.

But as stated before, better safe than sorry I suppose.

I keep mine in there but now that i have collectors insurance and road side assitance i probably would just tow it. I've had mine on the car twice (once for over 100 miles) and it isn't nice to the front bumper when its on the front of the car if you have to drive anywhere with dips in the road, and the rear end is kind of weird with that tire on it too. it was on the front for the 100 miles +, i only had it on the rear long enough to drive the car home and park it in the garage until the new wheels/tires came in.

If you could get a lightweight, 12V air compressor and a tire plug kit (NOT Fix-a-flat), the spare tire could be taken out.

I been in this situation before when I couldn't get one of the lugs off so i drove on the flat tire. What do you suggest besides Fix-a-flat.

First thing I did when I bought my car was ditch that thing. It rattled the whole 2600 miles home. I never plan to put it back in because I would never stick that thing on the car. Doughtnut spares suck ***** and I would rather just call a flatbed. I've driven 40k miles without that spare and never once needed it. I know it's carried because you don't know when you'll need it but that's what flatbeds are for.

actually the plug kit sounds like a great idea, a few weeks after i got my car i got a flat (God telling me to get rid of those Kumhos). i couldn't get the wheel off bc one of the lug nuts was a locking one.

AAA came and plugged up the tire, re inflated it and it drove fine for a few weeks till i could get new tires.

found a plug kit for cheap.
