'Bolt up' is a relative term. I don't have their FRCs (made my own) but with the variations in engines, drivelines, options, and accesories over the years of LS1 F-bod production, a little trimming may be necessary. Its not that complicated, just be careful.

If it were, the Corvettes wouldn't have them. Remember, you've got a hood up above the engine that holds 3x the heat in that these FRCs could. There is a ton of airflow coming in/under/around the engine bay...so unless you're making them out of a foam/glass layup and fitting them to the engine a LOT tighter than they do fit, you're not going to have issues.

Think about it you have a Corvette and a Camaro, both cars run basically the same engine. The engine compartment of a Camaro is actually more open than a Vette, so you think heat will be a problem? Do you really think GM would install a part on the most expensive Chevrolet car that would harm it? Granted GM isn't the smarted cookie in the batch but come on?

XstaZ,

It's called CYA(Covering My A**!!). I agree, I haven't had problems with heat, but a lot of folks think it's a potential problem. So, $15 for the tape is cheap peace of mind. But, thanks for backing me up in my thought's that heat is not really an issue.

Why didn't they make FRCs from the factory for our f-bodys.I'm just curious as to their reasoning.

The engine looks incomplete without them,how dare them. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

Heat kills electronics...just a thought.

I'd rather sacrifice a set of FRCs than a coilpack and (potentially) the damage that a failed ignition could do.

Just my 2 pennies...

If you're worried about CYA, provide the tape (or part number, whatever) and enclose a statement about it. Let the customer decide.

The GTO will have them...the engine is more exposed like on the Corvette.

Hey Guys,

Thought I would chime in since I make the ones everyone's discussing. I trim them so basically no trimming is required. As you can see from the pics there are some notches taken out of the back to compensate for the AIR hose on the driver's side and the large bundle of wires at the rear of the coil pack on the passenger's side. Not every year or model may need these notches but they make installation one heck of a lot easier and they are not seen after install because the cowl extends so far forward.

As for overheating, I put a disclaimer in with the install instructions and notes I give everyone about potential overheating issues. YOu are right there is tons of air under our hoods. BUT, I do recommend that everyone invest in some heat shield tape and stick it on the bottom of the covers.

Hope that helps answer some questions and concerns.

I think if you added up all the PHd's, Masters, and other pedigree's in their engineering department, I think you'd be rather surprised.

Just because YOU don't like some of the decisions they make regarding design's of their cars, you must keep in mind, they have to cater to a wider net of people out there and they have many more obejctive's to hit than you and I do out in our garage being solely focused on performance attributes. They must balance performance, emissions, warrantyability, noise levels, safety, etc, etc. Conversely, you and I just care about the performance part of the equation. As such, that's why we curse some of their engineering.

Remember, there is ALWAYS a reason behind GM's engineering teams' designs.

They (all manufacturers) have their specific reasons though.

Sometimes you just have to search for the holy grail to find it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

If so I would not use it to paint the covers for 2 reasons:

(1) I believe it is designed for use on bare polished metal. Don't think you would get the intended look by painting over primer on the covers.

(2) I mix in a plastic adhesion promoter and flex additive to my auto paints to make the paint stick to the plastic and also be flexible. I wouldn't be able to add this to a spray paint.

Hope this helps answer your question.
