Thanks guys. Yes I sanded it with 400, 800, then 1000. 3 dry coats of filler primer, then two wet coats followed by the color coat and clear. I sanded between each primer/color coat with 1500. I did this on my last WS6 about 4 times, never flaked.

Just gotta make sure you always put the clips in the EXACT same spot as it will dig in a bit.

Thanks again everyone. I also did the wire mod as you can see

I like how the lid is "LPM" and is up against the black radiator support and says "look at me" without being overly done and looks good.

^ It'd be MUCH worse on my red car. Prolly why I'm not thinking of painting the lid red.

I think he needs some shiney stuff now! Paint the rad support Onyx Black and bury it in about 5 coats of clear! That's what I did. Helped a lot!

Hey, I have an idea OP. What if you cut strips of Velcro and use the softer side on the clips to where it doesn't rub the paint off of where they sit? Just my two cents cause if it were a several hundred dollar paint job or the $1.99 paint you can get at Wal-Mart, I don't wanna have to deal with later to pro-long other stuff that could be done to the car, lol.

^Pretty damn good idea! I agree with Torched but i think he said he was going to be putting a bird on the lid, should offset it enough.

IMO, it would be better to have done the base also so it all blended together, rather than sticking out with the 'look at me', ...
Seems odd that the lid has such a 'wavy ocean' look. Is that because of the previous paintwork?

Hopefully when the bird gets on there it'll change your mind. It's kinda odd seeing a whole pewter lid.. just seems like it needs something on it.

LOL yeah don't paint the lid red. I was torn between a couple different colors when I had my red WS6. I painted the lid red, put it on, took it off and sanded all the paint off.

Thanks man. As soon as we get out of this damn 40* weather I plan to have it spotless.

I'm going downstairs to grab the velcro right now.

I feel like the radiator support being pewter would have definitely been pushing it. As for the wavyness, I don't know man, it's just the lid. You can see it here, how it comes right from the factory.

Hey OP, glad I could help, lol. As soon as read a post about the clips rubbing the paint off, I immediately thought of the soft side of the Velcro, lol.
