Default Daytime Run lights = First impressions from a distance

Like me you probably notice how old or new an Fbody or Vette is when approaching, by how faded or how bright & crisp their DRLs are.

Although I only have 50K miles on my '02, since I never see myself approaching, I decided it was time to replace them (and remove & clean the lense housings with soap & water).

I knew it was a pain. Access to the 3 screws via bottom hatch is easy. It takes FIRM persuasion to get them out of their tight spot.

Bulbs are standard $4 (pair) #3157 stop/turn signal bulbs.

One on left is my stock, still working, but obviously faded & dying bulb.

Looks good! I'm the same way, I love the way the DRL's look on T/A's and Camaro's, although I prefer them on Birds I recently replaced mine as well. So much easier on a WS6. I remember replacing them on my SS and they were a pain!

Nice, now swap them out for leds and be done with them. I like the yellow but modernized and went with white leds for my DRL's, most new cars have white now, front side markers too fwiw

Just an FYI, but the 3457 is a little brighter. 37 Candle Power vs. 32CP of the 3157.

I 'd use switchbacks instead of white LED bulbs for the DRL/Turn Signal.

Amber blinks a lil brighter than white, hence serving the purpose of a turn signal (getting attention of other drivers when you make a turn).

If I were to clean them up and replace the bulbs, instead of the "clear" bulbs like what you have OP, I would have went with the Amber ones in the stock housings. Give it a richer look without being any brighter. I did that in the fiancée's car and it made a difference. Not one that'll have you talking for days but after I did it to hers, the "clear" bulbs looks like it washes out the amber a little but and the Amber bulbs fills out the gap.

^ What LED Bulbs did you use? Do you have a link? I've noticed that on my 02 Firebird AND my 00 Trans Am that the lenses were milky white from the heat created by the bulbs. Now on my Bird I have white bulbs that are only steady on with the headlights on. They're off during the day and blink on bright. At night they're on bright and blink off.

Are the white led turn signals legal? And how did you switch them out like that?

Heres the description of their site but they are sold out or discontinued:
V-LEDS HID 6K WHITE 60 M-SMT GM DRL/PARKING/BACK-UP BULBS 3156 3157 4157 4057 4114
purchased from v-leds

If you search for the thread titled "Switchbacks" on this forum, I started down that path where they would be yellow on drl and flash white on turn signal but never could get those to work so I put those in my truck and bought these, work fine.

Are the white led turn signals legal? And how did you switch them out like that?
I don't know for sure but think so, never had any issues, YMMV
Unplugged the bulbs, plugged in the leds, simple. Most newer cars have clear/white lights now, a lot are going away from yellow. Foglights are 880 led bulbs too as well as, my interior, only element bulbs left are 3rd brake light and taillights.

Thanks for posting the pics. Those really do look nice, I bet the pictures don't even do justice. They look more modern too, your right.

I still prefer my amber DRL's though. There's just something about amber DRL's on a Black WS6 that screams out muscle, and I think it looks bad ***. I can't describe it, but I've always loved it and always will. It's one of my favorite parts about the car. On a different color though it's a different story.

The amber looks much better. Gives it a more sinister look. That's why I kept mine. I also put covers over my ambers and fogs. Makes it look better during the day.

Where did you get the DRL covers? And do you have fog light covers??

Also do they both just pop on?
