Default Any problems with painted coil packs?

I've been looking through the threads of people who painted their coil packs and I really want to try it because I'm too cheap to buy FRCs.

What's the best method of painting the coil packs and once the paint is on, does it cause any problems with functionality? Like overheating and what not?

Thanks!

No problems. I've painted them with both spray paint and with basecoat/ clearcoat auto body paint. Just be sure to tape off the connector or the paint might get on the contacts

I made a mini write up back in 2009.. I did a search but I could only go back to 6/2009 for ya...

I painted mine with my caliper paint.. I had the hood popped yesterday and they still look brand new.. But then again my car isn't my DD..

PREP is the key!!!!

It's a great mod! Also paint the bolt heads for them and the brackets the same color and they will blend together very nicely. Here's mine:

Brain you jackass you forgot a step

Filler Primer > Adhesion Promoter > Color > Clear

Those were your instruction to me

Did you get your plane ticket yet

Hey Brian what should I do to my lid????? Like what color should I paint it??? It sucks that my hood rubs ever so slightly on in the middle.. Any tips or trick to get rid of the rubbing?

Jonas I'm going to steal that catch can.

Umm.. for the lid.. red or gunmetal would look nice. I did both on my WS6. My favorite was.. the lid Bright Red (like the car) and I had a black/silver bird on it.

torchd - what about adjusting hood stops? or trim hood??

coils look good gentlemen... ive become very fond of black epoxy for appliances in a rattle can, high heat and chip resistance, used it on my rims with no clear, works great on plastic too (lower lid, etc)

I degreased mine and then wiped them down and shot them with Krylon Fusion Red. I had the Valve covers powder coated and I replaced all the mounting screws with Allen Head Stainless fasteners.. .....So far so good!

My coils were wiped down with isopropyl alcohol then I masked the sinks, bottom spark plug wire openings and the main harness connector. Then I shot twice with Krylon Fusion. That's it. The VC's and brackets are powder coated.

Here you can see where I masked off the bottom Spark plug wire area.

I washed mine with dawn and warm water, wiped with alcohol, masked inside the connector areas to there's no line. I sprayed a coat of adhesion promoter then a couple coats of GM Sunburst Orange Metallic then several coats of clear. I painted the brackets silver. Search my name and you can find my thread with pics...I'm on my iPhone so I not gonna do the leg work!

It's definitely a good, easy, worthwhile mod that doesn't take long and still makes a difference!

That's almost too pretty to hide most of it under your cowl.
