The dealer nicely agreed to repaint the roof even though it was out of warranty, but...
First they tried to sand down the clear coat, resprayed it, and when they baked it, the bubbling came back again. They then sanded it all the way down to the SMC? and noticed several small white spots in it right where the bubbling is occuring. They resprayed and it again bubbled when baked. He told me that he has never seen this problem before, and that it would likely be back. Well one week out of the shop and it's back! this time some clear **** oozed out of the bubbles.

He says he'll make the case for me to the zone manager, because he'll have to have his ok to cover the work. He wants me to get some evidence that other people are experiencing this too, I guess so they can check the GM records on it.

Would any of you who are experiencing this be willing to provide any contact info or VINs to help me out here? It would be much appreciated!
btw, he said this would be approx. $2000 if I have to pay for it!

I can't find the TSB on this, if anyone knows the number of it, can they post it?

I'm at mfeeley@inviva.com if you all don't want to post personal info here.

Thanks!

Just spoke with the dealer yesterday, and he says Chevy is denying his claim for repainting the roof, saying it was too far out of warranty. Bad thing is it's worse now than before they repainted it...

I asked him if we could just cut out the areas where these white spots were in the roof material and he said there was probably a hundred seperate spots of it

Still waiting on the zone manager to show up and take a look at it, he's apparently able to make the call on whether to cover the repairs or not.
But I have a sinking feeling that they're not going to do anything else, and I'm stuck with a blistering roof.

Don't you guys just love the quality of these cars: the bad quality paint jobs from the factories; the third gen floor pan design; sun visors that fall in your lap; side windows that wobble in the door. Ain't it awesome! Not to mention the seedy dealerships, that you have to deal with, and the scum that work in em'. Now, I'm being sarcastic as hell. It's just that I can't believe the 1970's era quality on these cars. It's just crap. I got no warranty with my car, and I had to sign a waiver, because of what it is. I knew that going in the door. I'll just customize and improve when it's needed. Luckily, I can fix my headaches.

Mine are slightly above the drip rails on both sides, and about an inch or so above the windsheild seal. They are relatively small, about the size of a small drop of water (that is they are now) they were even smaller when I first took it in...

What happens is the on a hot day, the blisters appear, and will shrink back down when the roof surface cools off. But if you touch them while they're puffed up, they will ooze some oily crap out of them.

Ok,I'm pissed, the final decision was made whenr I spoke with the GM rep (on the 800# from their website) is that this is out of warranty and since it is not a safety hazard in their opinion their not going to do anything about it, and this is their final decision regarding the case and the case is now closed.

The lowered worth and satisfaction of the vehicle is just my tough **** to live with apparently, **** GM...

Seems very strange how the majority of the bubbling has occured on Camaros. GM quality at it's finest...

Well I guess I'll pipe in to as mine is doing it as well. I just went out of warranty with mine about 2000 miles ago or 1 week thanks to a trip to Miami. (work). I am extremely suprised that this has happened to so many other people. I have t tops and its happening on the small roof panel behind them. Just started doing this right after the warranty too

I was just informed that I will be recieving my new roof skin in a week!
Hard press dealerships to fix this problem as there is absolutely a TSB (technical service bulletin)
released!! As stated in TSB " bubbling along lines of roof, FIX, replace roof panel"
If this helps anyone towards fixing their roof
My Vin# is 2G1FP22G912106113 2001 SS camaro.
Good luck all!

My wife's 99 CAMARO has the same problem I took it to the dealer this morning, they said that they can't do anything because it's out of warranty time wise but the car only has 31,000 miles.

The paint on the rest of the car is flawless, not even a bug mark on the front or the mirrors, the car sits in the garage all day and is only driven 1 or 2 days a week. I called the 800# and got the same BS form the homo on the other end of the line, then I called GMAC and told them that if this is not taken care of they can just come and get the ******* car, GMAC put a little pressure on them and now a zone rep is coming to look at the car. If they don't cover it I'm getting rid of both cars and will go buy 2 new 03 Cobras!

Damn, I've got a zig-zag mark on the top of my roof panel.
I haven't noticed around the perimeter, but I'll have to look
for this now.

I'm taking it to the dealer for broken AC this weekend I hope.
Just spent money recharging it two weeks ago, now it doesn't work
again

I'm taking mine by the dealer tonight for them to take
a look at. If they don't try to "fix" the paint tonight,
I'll get some pictures of it when I get home. I think my
camera should be good enough to catch it.

Just to give fuel to everyone this is happening to. I was able to get a printout of the service bulletin. As stated before it's #03-08-98-001a. It went out to dealers 04/02/2003. on both ttop and hard top it calls for replacing the roof panel. Unfortunately, it does require area manager approval. Without approval, I imagine they'll just try to sand and re-shoot the affected areas. This sucks so bad because it happens so closely to the end of warranty. The entire bulletin is only 4 pages, if it might help you guys, I can scan this and post it. let me know.

Please post this for me...
I'm in talks with GM right now on whether they will cover
this under warranty. I'd like to have the full TSB to see
if it may help my cause.

THANKS!
