Default Basic engine bay cleaning

My engine bay was really dirty. I haven't cleaned it since I bought the car a year and a half ago. I'm going to install a new Turn One P/S pump this weekend, and I figured I'd clean the engine bay up a bit before the install.

All I used was some lukewarm water in a spray bottle and paper towels. It's not 100% clean, but it looks much better than before.

Before:

After:

I took the intake off, since it's easier to install the P/S pump with it out of the way. I cleaned that up as well (no pics, though).

Yeah, that's next on the list. I'm thinking of painting it navy blue to match the rest of the engine bay.

I'm ready to do that, just haven't worked up the courage to drill into the shock tower I'm always afraid I'm going to screw things up whenever I work on my car.

I would just sand and spray that strut tower bar

x2 + air injection delete.

I just did the wire mod on mine, it was easy. I suggest starting out with a normal drill bit to make a pilot hole, and if you don't get it exactly where you want, it won't matter (unless you miss by more than 1.5 or so inches). That sounded dirty...

What size hole saw did you use?

I'll be doing the AIR delete, just need to have a tuner tune out the trouble code for it. Or buy the software and do it myself.

I'd degrease it one more time and maybe agitate the whole bay including the engine with some brushes and then rinse. While your at it throw some carb cleaner in that throttle body...might help your throttle response (looks like it has some build up)

Wire and air mods will make it so much easier to clean without all the crap in the way. The air trouble code delete is so easy to do with hptuners you really don't need a tuner to do it for you if you have the software.

The write up said to use a 1.75", but I just used 1.5". However, it was very difficult to fit 1 or 2 of the wire connectors through. I think, like me, the less of your car you have to cut away, the happier you'll be, but it'll be easier with a 1.75" hole.

I used the 1 3/4 inch saw and barely squeezed my harness through, I have no idea how you got 1 1/2 to work.

I'm not too sure how I did it either, lol. It wasn't easy at all to get it through.

No, I just used wet paper towels to get the easy-to-reach dirt, and a spray bottle of water to loosen up dirt in harder-to-reach areas.
