Exclamation New 3157 style LED? (pics)

Was surfing the net and stumbled across this fairly new type of 3157 bulb LED replacement. They come in white, amber, and red. Looks like it'd be pretty high powered:

Specifications:
LEDs: 5-Watt
LED Type: L21 High-Power SMD
Lumens: 200
Color: White
I also found ones that LOOK identical on Autolumination's website:
10 Watt Eagle EYE SMT Tower
5x 2 watt High Powered Rectangular Chip SMT LEDS
These Bulbs have Advanced Surface Mount Technology LEDS + Advanced Patented Circuitry
4 high powered SMT side facing LEDS - 1 high powered SMT forward facing LED
Only 19mm diameter x 59mm overall - fits all stock housings
Does anybody have experience with these exact LEDs? My plan was to use them or the amber versions for DRLs and/or the red versions for the brake lights. I don't see a lot of heatsink surface area though so I'm a little hesitant about purchasing them.

The bulbs are too far out from the base, so they do not light up the reflector very well. Vleds has some high power white bulbs that work much better with the stock relectors...OR there are some on ebay, which are 13W with 13 SMDs on each bulb that aim into the reflectors a little better.

Nope. I have the only 13W LEDs on eBay sitting on the passenger front floor mat because they're a POS. Purchased from Warden_JP2002 a while ago. I used them in my DRLs for about half a year to a year. Then the LED chips started flickering and not working. Eventually one of them completely failed and the other only had 1-2 of the LEDs still lit. To top it off, when they DID work, they had a yellowish/greenish tinge to them that only got worse when they went to the DIM mode when the headlights went on. After enough comments about my car throwing a disco party (from the random flickering), I decided to replace them with regular ole tungstens. I'm in the market for different LEDs.

Also, I'm not looking to light up the reflector too well, as I have another project or two in mind (if you search my threads you may find them). Just want A LOT of light output.

How about a link to the V-LEDs ones you speak of?

I thought the 13w would function better. I don't think they are sponsor, its vleds.com. They are pricey, but work great

I know the site. I'm pretty sure they are less **** about us posting LED links when none of the other sponsors here sell LEDs.

They have two different kinds, 5K and 6K, which are the same price. I have the 5K. You'll notice that they placed the bulbs close to the base...

5K

I found another version:
1. Light source holder with high purity red copper, makes thermal conductivity high, heat dispersion excellent
2. Designed base on traditional tungsten lamp 360 degrees light beam angle principle, maximize the light beam angle in LED mode, can be close to 360 degrees
3. Super high light efficiency, made of 4 pcs new high power light source, 200% higher than traditional SMD LED brake lamps in light efficiency
4. Light source made of Dow Corning silicone imported from USA, long lifetime, high light efficiency, low light failure
5. Sealed with imported LED chips
6. Radiator is made of high intensity aluminium alloy, with international space product material level
7. Radiator surface is hardcoat anodized
8. High efficient intelligent constant current driving, none-pole division, large power factor, stable & reliable
9. Input volt range: 12-24V DC, wide input range
10. Power: 4*1W
And a warning from another seller:
Attention:
A. This product should work at 12-24V DC volt range
B. Highest stand voltage is 28V, but can not be work long time, should be no more than 1 minute
So apparently it can take up to 28V, but not for longer than 1 minute.

... and a website where you may be able to get them cheaper:
http://360autoparts.en.alibaba.com/

http://360autoparts.en.alibaba.com/p...ble_touch.html

I signed up, but am waiting for pay day before I place any orders.

My experience with LEDs is they are not as bright as standard bulbs just more clearer or a color.

LEDs are very directional, so if you have them right they can be brighter, or at least more intense. I have LED tails in my trailblazer and they are certainly brighter looking and more visible in fog and such than the original tails.

LED drop-ins in standard bulb reflector housings tend not to work so great however.

It all depends on which kind you buy. Some are brighter than stock, most are dimmer. The reason I created this thread is because this looks to be one of the brighter options - one that has the possibility of producing more usable light output than stock, and while looking sharp and not soft (like stock).

I am not another one of those people that buys $5 Autozone LEDs and puts them in my tail lights, then makes an assumption that all LEDs are bad. Just in-case you didn't know...

Heh I saw some guy who used those cheapo autozone LED bulbs in his Ford freestyle over the weekend. Had a couple tiny red dots in the center of his tail light lenses

Think I found a comparison pic (not sure). V-LED's red on the left (100% sure), stock on the right (I THINK):

Disagree, I suppose you have not been behind an 18 wheeler recently, the leds on those things are amazingly bright, much more than car bulbs, IMHO. Wish I could find the same leds for car applications that they use on big rigs.

Autolumination and SuperBrightLEDs has them.

Edit: I had been thinking about using some of the semi truck style amber circles to replace my DRLs on my Formula bumper, but decided it would be a last-resort.

FYI, the measurements for the lenses on the Formula DRL and a Formula/TA foglight are:
Formula DRL: 95mm
Fogs: 115mm

They should be. If not brighter than, they should be close to equal.

I have the V-leds 3157's in 5k. One of them failed within a year. No water inside the housing either. I wouldn't recommend them honestly. Especially since they cost me a lot of money. $60.00 with tax and shipping.. :/

Did they look like the ones in the OP? If not, then we don't give a ****. Thanks.
