Cool Putting the PC7424 to the test!

1973 Camaro, paint is 15-20 years old, never wet sanded, lots of orange peel.
The haters say it can't be done with the good ole PC, I thought it would & without any research, we went for it tonight. It is coming out nice, can't wait to work on it some more. Now that I have 2 panels done, I did some digging & found some better options for sanding & buffing with the 7424, should come along easier than the testing tonight.

Tonight I played around with the LC Orange...

The Yellow LC Kompressor...

Surbuf

3M Perfect it II, M-105, Menz IP & an assortment of other products.

Here is what I came up with...As of now, products are limited to local. Sanding tonight was 1500 wet...Going outside of the box a little this weekend. Feedback is welcome & appreciated!

Fender before:

Fender after: (Still not finished more than some hand glaze following the orange LC)

Woah! That orange peel was hideous! Looks tons better now. What was your wetsanding process? I've wetsanded my a few parts before but the process was tedious in removing the sanding marks.

that's something I've been waiting to see! I've read the PC doesn't have enough grunt to get out wetsand scratches, but I've done it by hand with turtle wax compounds before and was very curious why people said it wasn't possible. I guess that isn't the case. What grit did you finish in before starting with the PC?

These pics were taken just after buffing the 1500. Going to work on it tomorrow, will sand 3000 over the 1500 before buffing.

I still have some finish buffing to do yet, but we pretty much wrapped this one up on Saturday...Ended up sanding 1500 grit wet & then 3000 grit Trizact over the top of that, both using the PC-7424. Here are some more pics I snapped with my phone, not the greatest, but I think it shows some good improvement.

Here is the car...Before we started.

Beautiful car, when do I pick it up and sign the papers...LoL

Question: you wetsanded using a sanding block or used the sandpaper on your PC?

I'm sure it will be for sale soon, he doesn't keep anything too long. Wait till he has an LSx in it though/

We primarily sanded with the PC. It was the first time I'd ever done it & as long as your careful, it will work out good.

Here is a close up, taken with my phone. A week ago, you could not tell it had metallic in the paint.

Pulled it out of his garage quick, still not a great pic of it...

I started on my own junk when I got home...we are heading to Mn for the Car Craft Summ Nats next weekend.

Looks damn good. If I had the money and could find one, I honestly think I'd throw the money down without thinking for a '70-'73 Camaro or Bird. Best years for those two IMHO but that may be just me though.
