Default 98 Firebird Rear wing?

Hey guys

I’m looking to customize a race inspired 98 Firebird with similar characteristics of the 2010 Z06. I will be widening the stance with custom molded fender flair and a custom molded hood. Along with many other mods.

What I am looking for assistance with is to find a tasteful rear spoiler that will not work against the body lines of the car. I have not found many pictures of this, so I am guessing there are not many options out there.

Does anyone have any pictures of where this has been done tastefully?

Keep in mind I am new to the Customizing Game and working on this for personal experience?

Thanks to all for the Positive thoughts.

Why not use like a WS6 high rise rear wing and then build something off of that? I personally like the high rise wing, to me its still tasteful but not to much. Although i hear at lower speeds it can in fact slow you down if that might be a problem for you then....possibly a Mecham wing for the Firebirds? Google the Trans Am Mecham wing and you can see it for yourself. I like that one as well. Its suttle, but custom enough to be noticed to the trained eye.

  • Get a Trans Am high rise hatch
  • Unbolt the stock spoiler, and set it aside
  • Fill in the holes used by the stock spoiler
  • Get/make ducktail spoiler similar to what's found on Camaros
  • Make it work. Apply some Z06 styling touches like a notch out of the center of the spoiler w/angled left/right edges.
  • Pics w/o Z06 styling:

Thank you Zex.
That is nice. It does not overdo it yet adds lots of style.

You think a stock Formula rear looks pretty? That tells us a lot about your tastes.

If you are going to say it looks like *** then provide a different option.

Trans Am wing? Formula wing would be my 2nd choice, but I think the wings pictured look out of place on a 4th gen.

My suggestion at the very least, is to find a high-rise spoiler hatch, unbolt the spoiler, and think about what you can add from there. It will give you a "clean" canvas to add material onto without making it look ridiculously big, like a wing on top of a wing.

^ +1. I agree with Zexgx. Just do that and then let your imagination go from there. But who cares about what everyone else thinks. Its your car, you do what you want to it. No matter what. I personally wouldnt mind seeing that wing that Zexgx has in his post on a WS6. It might look pretty good IMO.

Hey Stealth

Thanks for the comment. The reason for the thread is to see different ideas no matter how dull or over the top. I want to do something that is unconventional without looking ghetto or tacky.

Yeah, I completely understand. Putting a wing on top of a Formula wing would be pretty bad. A stripped down TA hatch would be the best place to start by far....

And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there wouldn't be a good looking, outside the box wing option, nor am I a "hater", lol....just giving my opinion Those wings shown fit very well on 2nd gen birds, just not on 4th gen birds IMO, there are too many curves flowing through the body to have something abruptly jump up out of the back at a sharp angle. I will say that the wing on the white bird shown is the best of those shown, but the rest of the car is way overdone.

I like the look of this spoiler but is it possible to move it all the way to the end of the hatch or was that the furthest you could go?

I have never seen this and I think it looks awesome,, very different. I just think it needs to be moved back further to the end of the hatch**
