Default Erasers are awesome, and free!

I have been using a square pink, or white, eraser on my car since i got it about a month ago. I have a white 98 t/a. and man does that eraser take out every rub mark and peice of dirt the car wash doesnt!

I had a huge mark on the door from the previous owner, looked like paint from a pole, a 5 inch x 5 spot, eraser took that off.

Just recently cleaned up the side molding that runs along the door about 6 inched from the bottom of the car, was looking like a light brown/dirt color. Used a white eraser and now that molding is back to BRIGHT WHITE!

I was surprised at how much scuff marks and everything else it took off.

Anyways, just thought i'd let you guys know, try using an eraser before you go spend money on a rubbing compound.

Does it not leave marks in the clear? I would think it would.

So far nothing, it leaves like a mark as if you rubbed your finger on the car, but it wipes off with a rag. Only think i would watch out for is a black car, havent tryed it on 1 yet. You dont have to rub hard, start very lightly. Be careful with the side rubber molding, try to use a pink eraser on a red molding so you dont fade it, same goes with other cars. I took a scuff mark out on my mom's blue ford explorer and a silver f-150, so far so good.

i got the mothers kit for 20 bucks and it comes with the detailer/micro towel. Comes with 2 pieces of clay. Basically my car has never been clayed and i used 1/2 of a bar to clay the whole car. So i only used 1/4th of the kit. You might use more, but i don't think you would go through a whole kit unless your car was ridiculously dirty.

I reuse my clay bars. I just put it in a sandwich bag and spray some quick detail in there and seal it up. Good to go for the next time. My car is never really dirty though so the bars arent bad after one use

Default Before/after pic with eraser

Ok, well you know those pesky scratch marks under the door handle? I took pics to show the eraser works, hopefully you can see it with it being a close-up pic

Dude... That's what polish is for...

*facepalm*

Edit: even "cleaner wax" would have probably taken that out...

This is a joke, right?
Put your car under halogeons. It's probably marred like crazy.

No, he's completely serious. He completely missed the fact that an eraser is an abrasive, and that he's dry-rubbing an abrasive on the clearcoat.

I would spend the $4 on a low-quality rubbing compound any day before choosing a pencil eraser, but that's me.

Edit: and just to add... $200 in OTC (over-the-counter) detailing supplies over the ownership period of your car is much cheaper than $2000+ for a paintjob when you have clearcoat failure.

Same here. I finally just got rid of a Mothers clay bar that I had since 2003. IMO, the yellow Mothers clay is much better than the new white clay from the Meguiars kit.

I feel the opposite way - I've had yellow Mothers claybars turn into unusable tearing garbage after being used once and then stored for about 6 months, whereas I've had Meguiars white retain their consistency/tearing after being stored about 6 months.

Erasers cost money, too... unless you're using the ones you took from those school kids.

Body shops use erasers on a drill motor to remove stickers and decals without marking up the clear. You can not use them on plastic though. Google eraser wheel.

^ That. I've used those wheels without paint damage so how's this guy gonna melt his car into slag by hand rubbing an eraser? LoL Some people on here get so damn dramatic.

Oh and to add: I bet if they marketed that EXACT SAME eraser he's holding as an Automotive Detailing Scrape Removal Uber-compound they wouldn't have a problem with it. But heaven forbid someone find a remedy for minor issues on their daily driver and not spend $$$$ on detailing kits and/or SERVICES.

Dramatic? What he is doing is wrong. This is not opinion, it is a FACT. Eraser wheels are used, and then the paint is properly polished to remove the damage the wheel caused.

You want to remove scratches/marks? Do it right. Nothing dramatic about it.

My $0.02 is how did they find out what would and wouldn't work as for getting this stuff off in the first place? Trial and error my friends. Guess some here are close minded to something new coming into play. This guy here may have found something new to throw in and right off the bat y'all are starting on him.

OP- if you can get some pics of the area under the door handle under a halogen light that would awesome. If there are scratches, so what? Now you know what to and what not to do next time. Where all humans here and we all are gonna make mistakes.
