Default Need help with headlights

I bought some used headlights so they were foggy. I wetsanded them from 320 all the way to 12000 with a flexible foam block, then polished with regular car polish. They have very very fine scratches that won't polish out and it's making them a little hazy. They bother me cause they are very visible in the sunlight. How can I get rid of those? I've heard of Plastix but don't want to spend money if I'm not sure it will work. Ideas?

My question is you went up to 12000 grit sand paper? When I did mine, I went up to 800 tops and polished mine out and after a couple days, sprayed them with high gloss clear coat.

Because I was not planning on clearing them. I don't want to take the rubber seal off them.

I don't know how well spray paint clear would hold up... not very good if you ask me. Take them to a body shop and they can make them look brand new. If you go the clear coat route id use real paint not spray paint. My. 02...

Exactly, the clear could flake off from the heat.

Well I would buy Plastic X but I'd rather not waste my time if it doesn't work and could easily ask on here about it. Never said money was a problem. So it worked for you guys?

Mine have been cleared for 6+ months and mine is a DD and sits outside in the weather regardless of rain, clear, or whatever and they haven't starting peeling one bit. Mine is however regularly washed and waxed and my lights get some coats of wax as well as the rest of the car.

Your best bet is to clear them with a good quality clear now if you arent a rattle can expert then practice on something first to ensure you can get a nice glossy finish basically thoroughly sand with 800 grit sandpaper clean the entire lense with a wax and grease remover and use 2 different lint free cloths, 1 to wipe on and 1 to wipe off then lay on a light coat of clear(it should appear kinda matt/flat) then after about 3-10 mins (depending on temp and humidity example: Low temp high humidity= 10 mins etc) then lay on your heavy coat the goal here is to overlap your strokes going from side to side and down just slightly with each stroke. Good luck

Well my dad took one of them to his work (GM) and he used their buffer and special compound and it looks brand new. The slight scratches are still visible from certain angles but they are clear scratches now rather than hazy. Thanks, dad.

I also sanded off the 'nipples', gives them a cleaner look. I can get pictures if wanted.
