One of the SLP engineers said they use Simple Green and a garden hose with the nozzle removed. Of course while the engine block is cold. I've done this a couple of times with no problems. Just made sure I didn't get the PCM wet.

Yeah I do the same thing, simple green and a garden hose.

I push my car out of the garage into the driveway to ensure everything is cold

I use Simple Green and a spray bottle filled with water. The hose technique seems a bit too primitive and risky to me. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Simple green, a toothbrush and a garden hose.. at the end I pour a gallon bottle of distilled water over the engine area. Then i blow it off with a 200mph leaf blower and finish it off with compressed air and a bunch of towels. I use a small paintbrush (lightly sprayed with mother "the protector") to detail the convoluted tubing then LOTS of chrome polish.. lol

We use a de-greaser to clean the engines @ work. Use a soft brissel brush and clean off most of the parts, then once washed off, we take the air hose and blow everything dry. Havent had a problem w/ it. Supposedly Greased Lightning Orange Blast is supposed to be a good degreaser for that job aswell...

Like most of you I also want to know the proper way to clean my engine without damaging it. I've visited many forums and found similar answers. "Cover electrical parts... ect -> Use Simple Green -> Let it set for 5-10 Minute -> then host down with water." But the one thing that I do not understand is the Cover electrical parts... ect.
What specific parts should I cover to avoid damages to my engine.
What specific item should I use to cover my engine parts? I was thinking of using plastic + tape but I have doubt that water will still be able to leak through.

I clean mine by hand meaning I use simple green in a spray bottle and a rag to wipe it down, once I get all the grease off I go back over everything plastic and rubber with Armor All. Looks great! My motor is always clean, I can't stand looking at or working on a dirty engine. Just use some elbow grease and time, you'll get it. Spraying water all over my motor makes me nervous which is why I do it this way.

I use Purple Power and a hose spraying at full strength. I cover up the computer with a thick towel and go to town. Don't coverup anything else. I spray it down with purple power and let it sit for 5 or so minutes (always on a cold block, warm aluminum and degresser does not mix). I use a brush if I need to, but since i clean the motor at least once a month I haven't really had to do that for a while. I then spray it all off, not mist, not pour, spray full blast. Then take the air compressor and blow out the spots that hold water (around the intake, lid, strut tower, etc). Then wipe down painted surfaces so it doesn't spot.

7 years doing this to my 94 camaro, and 5 years doing it to the 99 Z with no problems.
