Default 2001 Camaro Lowering Distances?

im thinkin bout lowing my car, because well it looks like it should be a 4x4 haha. i just want some ideas on how low to go to look good and have drivability, its my DD. i have slp long tube headers so that will give me some clearance issues if i go too low. just wondering if y'all wanna post some pics of your cars lowered and how low/what brand you went with. thanks!

This is my Daily driver but I let my Acrophobia get the best of me. I don't know how much its actually lowered because the front is cut stock springs and Koni dual adjustable with the JasonWW mod for extra travel. Rear is a prokit with cut coils Koni dual adjustable. I have 2.5" TD's on the car that I fabbed up and was sure to tuck them up tight. I've got about 2 1/4" 2.5" clearance under the exhaust and yes it drags on curbs and speed bumps. the cats are shot because the have been smashed flat on the bottom as well. lol..

in the end how low you go would be up to you. I'd measure the distance from the ground to the headers with a full tank of gas and someone sitting in the car to get the car at the loaded ride height. Then decide how close to the ground you will be comfortable getting those headers. I recommend just getting mild lowering springs in the 1-1.5" lowering range. Unless you are feeling adventurous.

Kyb shocks and eibach pro kit I have longtubes and the only thing that scrapes I's my 3 inch y pipe when I go over speed bumps

I am assuming you are referring to the redesigned SLP Long Tube Headers? In this case they fit much like most aftermarket LT headers and issues related to dragging them on the ground are minimal to none even with the most aggressive lowering spring drops. Most will agree that the issue with dragging will come from how well the Y-pipe or duals are tucked as close to the chassis as possible.

There is a very fine line with this adjustment because the closer you are to the chassis the more likely you will hear the ever famous knocking from the Y-pipe nailing the floor board. Obviously if you have it set up too low then you run into dragging it. I think most compromise with dragging it rather than getting your brain rattled to death from the knocking of the Y-pipe being too close to the chassis.

If the answer is NO to the first question and you are actually referring to the original style SLP "Tuned Length" Headers, then you are in for some major dragging issues if you are thinking of lowering the car.

Your new driving habits will be to avoid speed bumps all together or enjoy taking them at 2 mph at a 45 - 65 degree angle, also enjoy the WTF looks you get from people who are clueless while taking speed bumps this way. Any driveway entrances that have steep inclines can almost be nightmares.

With my novel mostly complete I will share with you my current setup.

DMS Springs ~ 1.3" with Bilstein shocks. I rock Hooker headers with a custom True Dual CME setup. Yes, I drag in certain places. It's like finger nails on a chalkboard when I do! I HATE IT! Its rare that I drag and dragging is better than having my ***** rattled to death under acceleration from the pipes hitting the chassis/floorboard.

I'm running Strano springs, and its nothing to scrape the exhaust on speedbumps.
