Default Tinting tail lights

I want to somehow darken the tail lights on my Camaro. I DO NOT want to get black outs. I just want something that will darken them a little. I still want the lines on the tail lights to be seen and I still want the amber and red to be clearly visable with the lights off. I just want them to look tinted. I've heard about the spray tint, but it always looks too dark in the few pics I've seen of it. Want about a window tint? Would this be a bad idea? I think like a 35% would do what I want to accomplish. Any thoughts, opinions, and pics are welcome.

With the newer tail lights(97 up) the way they are made and designed, causes them to hold alot of heat. They act like a magnifying glass with the sun and will melt if they are covered and air cant get to them easily. The GTS blackouts always melt the tail lights. I havent heard of the carbon fiber tail lights doing anything of this sort, you should try and find out about them. Tinting the lights will probably end up doing the same thing as the regular blackouts,I'm not to sure if that would happen though. Be careful since the tail lights are around $175 a piece to replace if they melt. Good luck.

spray tint would work, just lay down one coat and it won't be dark at all.

i'd avoid using window tint. being on the outside it'd probably peel off in a few months

Here is what you are looking for...the tint looks awesome and I don't see how tint would retain heat? It is worth a shot, By the way this isnt my car and the pics are Not Work Safe fyi.

I'm well aware of how easy it is to melt the tail lights, I'm on my second pair already due to the blackouts my car came with. Thanksfully I got a used set cheap.

Myabe I'll try the spray tint and do a few lights coats. Every pic I've seen of the spray tint was darker than I wanted, but maybe that was by choice.

I just don't want to f-up my tail lights

Does anybody have any pics of the spray on tint?? Just a light coat of it shouldn't be too much.

I have the GTS blackouts and they havn't melted anything yet. I've had them on for over a year without removing them for anything except to clean and inspect the tail lights every once in a while <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

You could take them to a local paint/body shop and have them paint them with a tinted clear coat.
I had all my exterior lights and license plate done on my Vette. I took him two of the lightly tinted license plate covers and told him I wanted the lights to be the same tinted shade.
They came out almost exactly the same.
I was charged $140 for all the lights and it gave it a nice look with out completely blacking everything out.
Check out the link in my sig for a few pics

After Thoughts Auto sells a product call VHT Night Shades. It is a smoked clear coat for lights. I used it many years ago on my 1981 Z, and it looked AWESOME! One needs to be VERY carefull with it, since it is pretty runny, need to use quite a few very light coats. Do fret if it turns out a little dull, once it is fully cured it buffs out really nice!
