I ran no carpet for a few days, its ugly, louder, and hotter.
I put in 4 yards of Ozite (under 10lbs IIRC), cut it myself and its tolerable.
I don't think most people would notice the difference.
Weight reduction + better looking carpet (my **** was DISGUSTING) = one of my best mods yet.

Do what I'm gonna do, build the motor more to handle the weight of the carpet, . But for real though, I ran no carpet in my 2000 Dodge Neon with 5in. muffler out the back and it was to much for me so after that, I said I wouldn't ever take the carpet out unless I'm cleaning it or something to where I can put it back in.

I ran no carpet while waiting to install my sound deadener and new carpet. It sucked, and unless it's a drag car ONLY, it's not worth it at all. Really giving up *a lot* of comfort / benefits for a slightly lighter car. So - unless your worried about loosing a 100th of a second of a drag run, don't bother.

Negative ghost rider. I didn't have the body kit, big spoiler or in better terms Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement stuff. I was setting the car up to be somewhat stock looking but with a 2.4 Turbo motor out of a SRT-4 instead of the factory N/A 2.0 and with factory wheels but lowered with coilovers. I was leaving all the factory body parts on the car.

The entire stock style carpet set up weighs in at 50 pounds, a tad more for coupes. It's ******* miserable to drive around without any, and should only be acceptable for track only cars to ditch it.
If you really want to lose that kind of weight I'd start elsewhere. Tubular suspension is a good place, it'll knock out more weight than removing the carpet would.
Hell, I removed the entire HVAC system, ducting, and airbags out of mine and it all weighed in at 100 pounds, start there if you're gonna do anything extreme.
