Default How do these brackets look?

I want to clear them too, but everytime I try, it turns it a whitish color?
Is that just something with the paint, cause the same thing happened with my lid?

Did you get the same brand clear coat? If not, that could be your problem. If so, then maybe you should lightly sand the finish down, and then attempt to apply the clear coat.

Never tried sanding before clearing. hmmmm. I think both kinds were duplicolor. I'll have to check.

Are those polished? I just sanded mine and painted them silver (Dupli-Color Hi-Temp Aluminum). I used the same brand clear and they got duller. I have not tried the Dupli-Color Hi-Temp clear on a polished part to see if it dulls it yet.

They look good, post pictures of the final product when done.

They are just painted with bumper chrome. I tried a high temp engine enamel clear and it dulled the finish just like you said. I think it may be an effect with metallic paints? I sure would like to find away to protect the integrity of the paint like several coats of clear would.

Sounds like you might have layed the clear on too heavy too quickly. I just recently cleared a part with duplicolor clear, and it recommends a very light first coat with a heavier coat something like one hour later I believe ( I don't have the can here in front of me).

I've had parts dull or fog up and turn whitish when clearing... the trick, make sure the item you painted is COMPLETELY dry, like 24-48 hours. Then, use a VERY light coat of clear for the first coat, followed a few hours later by a thicker coat. That should do it.

Ditto on what Y2K said. I had that problem when I polished my caliper brackets and I just had to SLOW down trying to finish it up.
