Well from what I am reading so far, it looks like there will be lots of options for people on these tails. For some reason I was original thinking that the honeycomb effect was actually created by a raised area of plastic on the inside that was painted black. Knowing now that it is just a painted on or laminant coating,.. this means that the tails themselves will cast out totally clear. This will allow for any kind of finished look to be added either during casting or after ( not sure which yet ). Again, its hard for me to speculate before I actually have the tails in my hands, but I really think I'll be able to open the options up for people to highly customize the look they want for themselves.

Status on project :

I picked up the honeycomb tails that were shipping to my folks place in PA over the weekend. I have them back in the shop now. I am swamped this week playing catch up after a 3 day weekend away from the shop. I'm hoping to have some time next week to get this underway.

I did look over the tails quickly. If anyone has experience with these tails, feal free to chime in. In looking at the tails quickly, it appears as though the actual taillight lens IS clear, with the honeycomb vinyl on the backside of it. Then there is an actualy red light diffuser lens on the inside. Does anyone know if this is correct? If this is correct, then this means that I will only be producing the actual red diffuser lens inside in clear, as people already have the "clear taillight" lenses OEM. This would keep cost down, and make the project much more viable. ( didn't realize just HOW big these tails were until I had a set in my hands ).

The honeycomb, red, and clear portions are all one solid piece of plastic. ZexGX here I think it was showed a picture of a broken lens and you could see how it was all one piece.

That is completely incorrect. The tail light lens is one solid piece of plastic, with multiple plastic colors all fused together, which cannot be separated - only destroyed.

It is not as simple as removing a vinyl or using a heat gun to separate layers.

Alrighty, I was going to let someone else have fun for a change but does it appear they are not getting made?

If so, am I correct to understand you guys are ok with JUST getting clear lenses to mess with your factory ones yourself? If so I can get that done for sure...
