Huge cowl hoods on a car that doesn't need them for clearance isn't really cool, especially if the car doesn't at least have some serious ***** to back it up.

It strikes me as even more odd since 4th gens draw air from the front and don't even need height for intakes/air cleaners much less the breathing room between said cleaner and hood.

i agree with ya, the only reason i got my 3 inch ss hood was because of clearance for the new motor , but i always said what good is a car that looks like it runs 10s that runs 13s lol,

and the other issue i have with huge hoods is that nothing really looks right besides a drag setup, yes other wheels look ok but a drag setup will always look way better, thats kinda what im running into, weld rts will look perfect but i really would love to get a set of fm5s

When I say ***** I mean low 10s or faster. Otherwise it reminds me of full tubbed cars with fake blowers and huge slicks running high 12s on a good day with a bone stock SS or GT running door to door with it in the other lane.

But anyone who likes the look is free to do whatever, I was just stating an opinion.

Yep, cause it curves back down into the windshield instead of looking like a skateboard ramp. Sunoco!

I do follow what you mean, however, fast is a "relative" word bud ! Suggesting low 10's specifically doesnt exactly work for me. One's perception of a low 10 sec car might be really slow to someone who runs 8/9's...follow? I look at it this way, if it looks cool, why not, though I wouldnt do it. To me, any street driven machine 12 sec's or quicker has *****... As long as it's a bowtie and not the blue oval girls.

i dont think a 10 scond car is slow to anyone, everyone that runs 8s and 9s ran 10s at one point, i agree that if your going to make your car look like a badass it should be a badass , big slicks, huge hood, etc that makes 13,12 second passes is pretty much a ricer????? right lol

I had a third-gen Camaro with a 355 SBC carb'd converted from the L98 TPI crap, back in 2002. I did not have enough clearance with my newer set-up. I either had a choice of the 3" or 4" cowl. Wanting to put an insulating adaptor plate between the carb and high-rise intake, along with the nitrous plate, convinced me to go with the 4" cowl, just in case. It looked pretty cool to say the least. I ran 12.2/12.3@114 motor, on the juice, it ran 11 flat @126. Slow?....I dont think so. Fast?....well, fast enough for me at that time!! Hahaha...not slamming thunderstruck507. I do see few cars out here now that do follow his description. I even seen a trailered 80's white El Camino with a 4" cowl, jacked-up at the rear with lottsa rubber out back, a huge tach and a helmet to boot on the passenger seat. Went to the stands with my buddies for awhile, to let my Camaro cool off. That's when I witnessed a pretty good burn-out, then.......14.1@105!!! He dead-hooked and...well, he just really didnt have much to go with. I was expecting something much quicker....at least a 12 sec pass!!
