Default Under hood plastic restorer

Hey guys, I want to ask this question because alot of us with f body's are in the same boat with having 10+ year old cars. Is there anything you can use to restore plastic under the hood such as the faded rad shroud and discolored wiper cowl plastic?? Or is it better to just buy new ones for that like new look?

Don't listen to anyone who says Mothers Back To Black. They don't know what they are talking about. That stuff doesn't work very well, last long and is greasy.

Chemical Guys V.R.P Dressing is what I use as a part-time professional detailer.

It does much more than just what you want it for as you can see. It's water based and NON GREASY. It works and lasts as advertised.

I use it on my tires, under hood plastics and exterior plastics.

Look what it did to this nasty bumper (50/50 shot). The left is the uncoated if you couldn't figure it out...

WD-40 works great for plastics. Repels water, dust/dirt doesn't stick as much as all the other dresses out there. Aaaaand, it lasts a lot longer too.

I agree with hotwhip....back to black is just terrible.

Back to Black DOES work well, but yes it is greasy and doesn't last long.

The Chemical guys stuff looks good. Also liked the Adam's Super VRT I saw on their site, but it is a bit more expensive.

tire foam under the whole hood & plastic cowl.....15 minutes later give it a quick wipe with a rag wear its wet & your done.

wd-40 works great for the t-top trim & rubber seals around windows.

Also i think its called c2d or cd2 engine detailer, comes in a aerosol can and works great as well, back to black takes forever, but if the black plastic is really crap bondo makes some stuff called black restore, its a black gel that restores crap plastic almost as good as paint

Do a google search for "using heat gun to restore automotive plastics". There are some youtube videos of it as well. I haven't tried it but have seen pics and videos of it. One guy on this forum used it on his interior with great results.

I haven't tried the PERL, but CarPro makes some other great products I use. Cquartz, Reload, TarX, IronX, and Eraser!

I bought the chemical guys vrp, it's pretty cheap and the results that HotWhip T/A showed were enough to sell me. I'll test it out and let you guys know how it works when I get it.

+1 for Black Restore. I think that stuff is permanent too. It's not too shiny, makes the plastics look new. You have to brush it on. It's advised to tape off where you don't want the Black Restore.

Tried Mother's Back to Black before, it sucks.
