That whole "oh - my car must have been stolen" bullshit needs to be nipped. I realize there is no simple solution - but perhaps a shared onus on proving both guilt and innocence. Keys still in the ignition? It's reasonable to believe that someone from their own god damn house took it.
Wrecking mail boxes? That is kids.
Parents calling it in stolen? Enabling their little ****-hat delinquent spawn to continue being a burden to society.
Its very easy to not take responsibility - as communities themselves don't want to personally get involved in being a crown witness. They just want the cops to solve things magically.

I lose about $400 a day because of this **** lol. Yeah I'm coming at them for loss of wages too. I'll be honest guys once this thing is settled I'd rather sell the car as is, so if any of you guys would be able to give me an idea on price? That would be awesome 
. And you all are gonna hate me for this but looks like I'm going to be getting a G35 lol.

One thought I had was that in this era of big brother, is there any 7-11 or traffic cam that might have the footage of the car going by and the driver? If so, you could absolutely nail the kids if it is them.
It would have been nice if the cop had driven to the owner's house. If the car is in the driveway, with the appropriate damage, then the likelihood of it being a 3rd party was close to zero. The dad is also a dipshit for covering up for his kid joyriding. If it were my son, he would be showing up in court and taking responsibility for his actions. On the other hand, my son knows that and knows better than to ever do something so asinine.
