Lacquer Thinner to remove VHT Nightshade from Taillights?

Thanks for all the help guys. Gasoline worked great and turned my orange microfiber towel black. Just got back from getting the car re-inspected and it passed. Not sure now if I'll put the VHT back on, or just leave them as is. I really liked the blacked out look, as it went well with the rest of what I've done to the car.

Maybe instead of blacked out just a tint would be a good happy medium? Might still pass inspection when only lightly tinted also (not sure on that, no inspections here in OH).

For medium tint

sand
3 layers of vht (5 min apart)
let dry
lightly use gas to remove enough until your happy
clean well with water
3 coats of clear 5-7 min apart
let dry
wet sand with 2k grit
polish with wax

done

I envy your state. Inspections just plain suck ***.

And yeah, I'm not going near as dark as I did before.

From my experience, my tail lights were my only VHT project that turned out perfect! (IMO) No flaws, and a nice thick coat of clear. Just a smidge dark for my taste.. Tried it again on a couple other things and even after cleaning the lens, it was impossible to get it to cooperate. Cracks and just looked like ****. Tried it on my 4 wheeler and that didn't go over very well.
