A polish like Mother's Mag & Aluminum will actually work to remove some light yellowing and oxidization. I've used it in the past too. This process is for more severe problems.

wow! Great work! I guess this is a problem for the cars moreso in the south in greater heat than here in the Minnesota. I didnt know this was a problem until i saw a car on the power tour this year with the sun-fade problem. Good fix though! nice pix!

LS1 Sounds, do your headlights still look as good as the day you polished them? Its been about 15 months, just wondering.

They still look really good, but they are starting to show some signs of age again. A lot of that might have to do with the traffic that I drive in everyday in the Washington DC area though. You should see the rock chips in my hood!!! Overall, I would say they are holding up very well. BTW, I haven't used ANY polish of any sort on them since I wrote this article up either. Just normal car wash soap. I'll take some pictures when I get a chance, but I don't have much free time these days.

I'll copy over my post, since I followed your directions.

400, 800, 1500, 2000 for the different grit sand paper.
Then I followed it up with the Novus 3-step.

I'm pretty happy.. all this for under $35 instead of paying $180 for each new headlight.

Before:

After:

I also drive around the DC Metro Area, so maybe that's why they were so nasty to begin with

I think the sunlight has a lot to do with it. I know somebody who let their 98 Z28 sit outside every day in the New Mexico sun. Killed the headlights, I'm talking completely yellow and almost cannot see the bulb it was so bad.

I just did this to mine.......they look worse now.

I used 3M 400,800,2000 grit on them for a long time then polished them and it looked clean for a sec then the whole lense just foged up.

What polish did you use? It may not have smoothed out the 2000 grit sanding marks, it may have only filled them in. If that's the case, it might have washed off leaving you with the 2000 grit fog.

I doubt that the Mother's plastic polish is abrasive enough to remove the marks left from wet-sanding...

are you sure you did not get moisture in the light? Try turning your headlights on and see if it gradually fades away.

Well what we been doing is my friend and I did it again last night spent like 30-40mins with each grit (400, 800, 2000) and they started to look good then once we polished they just looked bad all foged up once it started to dry and it just stayed like that and we did it more then once and it got annoying. We tried Mothers Plastic Polish and the BlueMagic Polish. Im starting to wonder if its the polish cause when we wet sand they look great till we polish and the results keep coming out bad. Im guessing ima have to order the Novus kit or can someone tell me whats going on and if were doing anything wrong???
