I did the same on my CTS-V hid's and had good results, but the reason i did it was the previous owner had clear coated my lights without sanding and the clear was flaking and chiping off like crazy.... so make sure to sand before you clear if you go that route
btw I used 1000, 2000, Meg's PlastX, then Meg's NXT, both polishes on the powerball

removing headlights How do I remove the headlight from the car? I can't get it to slide out, do I have to remove the entire bracket behind it that holds it in place? I have loosened it from the bracket but it wont slide out. My manual does not discuss headlight housing removal. Please help.

Clips I broke one of the clips taking my headlight out. How much is that piece? And with that broke will that cause my headlight to look like a strobe while driving down the road?

Well, it has been over 3 years since I posted this thread. I have not wetsanded and re-polished my headlights since then, until today. I used the same process and products; here are the results:

I read all 8 pages of posts, but while the "before" pics looks yellow and hazy with light scratches, my headlights aren't too badly yellowed, but they sure have taken a real beating from rocks. My headlights, nose and hood all look like they have been sand blasted. (Such is the price of 100 mile/day commute on the PA turnpike)
So do you have a feel for how thick the plastic on the headlight cover is? I have some pretty deep pits in mine and I am afraid that either I will not be able to realistically sand away that much with 800 grit or if I do, by the time the pits are sanded out, the plastic will be too thin. Do you think its worth a try to polish them?

I have a few pits in mine also, and this round of sanding did not take them out. They appear to be pretty deep on my lenses, and I would not attempt to sand them out as they are only noticeable from 1-2 feet away.
If your lens is clear overall, I would most likely leave them. When you get so many pits that it makes the lens look bad, it may be time to replace.

Thanks, your response is pretty much along the same lines that I was thinking. My headlights look really pockmarked, so its time for new ones. Now for the research into stock or the aftermarket ones.

I did mine today when I did the whistler mod. I tried a good rubbing compound at first.. that didn't cut it. I had a 3 grade system of steel wools, and actually started with light pressure and a 150 grit sandpaper, LOTS of water. I ended with the rubbing compound and they already look great.. but not perfect. I will be going to get some polish tomorrow after golf
