Default HID conversion

Alright so as we all know the stock headlights are 9005 and 9006. I have purchased a set of Halo lights for my car. the new bulbs are H1 bulbs. should I purchase a kit for H1 or will a kit for the stock wiring work? My understanding is that H1 bulbs arent as bright, does this even matter? I have a light hint of blue in my halos, what kelvin rating should i use? 8000?

Which headlights did you get?

You need to get a HID kit that has the correct bulb for the housing. That means, if the headlight uses H1 bulbs, you need a H1 HID kit.

As for color... if you want an OEM look with the best output, stick in the 4300K - 5000K range. If you want a little more bluish-white, get 6000K. Avoid higher Kelvin ratings. The color gets bluer/purpler and the light output goes down (plus blue light is worse for night driving).

Thumbs up

That's all I needed to know, thank you. Actually 1 more question. I see there is kits ranging from 20 to 50 dollars or even more. Is there a big quality drop off? And do I need the anti-flickering thing I've been hearing about?

That is what you should do, not some half assed blind everyone because you want blue lights setup.

That is why I asked which housing the OP bought. If they are the Sonar Projector headlights, they are passable. If they are Halogen Reflectors, avoid putting HID in them.

The BLS Projetor headlights would be much better though. They use aftermarket Morimoto mini-H1 HID Projectors.

To answer the question on quality vs. price on HID kits, most come from the same few factories in China and resellers charge what they think they can get away with. However, there are a few exceptions. For example, Morimoto costs more but it is higher quality. DDM costs less because you'll be waiting a few weeks for them and their quality and selection have come in question more recently.

Like Blackbirdws6 said, those are not known for good output. The "Sonar" ones are better than those, but they are still behind compared to an OEM setup or a Replica setup (FX-R or Morimoto Mini)
