6LE A4 Shifter Overlay

6LE A4 Shifter Overlay I love the overlay, but it's difficult to see which gear your in. I know a LOT of people have installed them. Is it difficult to see what gear your in when the lever is shifted? It appears that the spot where it should be clear is white on mine, which makes it impossible to see the shift selector underneath. Does everyone else's has color in the spot where it should be clear?
I know that you can just line it up off to the gears with estimation. Has anybody cut a litle hole in the overlay which woulod make it easier to see the shift selector underneath?

You can just BARELY see it at night with the lights on.
Impossible to see it during the day. I was thinking a small diameter leather punch to pop a hole through it on each of the gear selections.

No "window" to see the gear selector on mine either. I don't believe any of them do. And I have a boot on mine, so it's even harder to see which number it aligns with. Oh well, just part of it. "One of those things..."

I've asked. We use a "clear" plastic to print on, which is that milky color you see. They dont sell the material completely transparent. But I know what you mean. Sorry... But with my install kit, you'd be able to punch the hole and still keep dust out of it.It's a thought...
Also, I'm not sure you should used a leather punch or hole punch. Those stress the materials they're punching and might "pull" the surrounding material and wrinkle it. Maybe a leather punch might be best since i tink the edges are thinner for cutting. Let me know how it works out.

Holy cow. I didn't even know that the shifter had a light in it. Mine must have been out before I bought the car- I've always been just feeling for the gear at night 
I figured it must have had one. Any idea how hard it is to replace the bulb(s)?

Super easy. Couple bolts the console piece pops up then the socket just twists out, bulb pulls straight out.
EXACTLY what I did to mine, one tip; use a straight edge to guide the punch so all holes are lined up straight, don't free hand like I did, mine works great!
