Default Raptor Shift Light In Cluster

I just received a used Raptor single function shift light the other day and my plan is to install the LEDs into the factory cluster and then mount the "dip switch" in the glove box so I have easy RPM adjustments.

I tore the light apart last night and found that the LEDs are hard wired to the board. I was planning on de-soldering the LEDs but there is a black box type thing on the base of the hard wires. Can I just cut the hard wires in the middle and solder a wire to them and extend them or am I going to ruin it's function?

I know I can simply attach the tube to the column or install it in the AC vent, but I don't want to do that. So if anyone can offer some input or has anyone done this?

Here's a pic of what I'm working with

IMO, if you know what rpm you want to shift at then, "set and forget" and mount it all together in the cluster. Now if you're not sure of what rpm you want to set it at yet, then do a temporary mount with some velcro in a easy access location until you settle on a turn-on rpm; then mount it in the cluster.

BTW, I've had a Raptor shift light in my AC vent for 5+ years now.

I know what you are saying but I don't think I have the room for the whole works in the cluster. Maybe if I remove the tube and epoxy the dip switch in place I could squeeze it in there. Then worst case scenario I could pull the cluster to adjust the shift light.

I have no idea where to set the light right now, I'll probably put it at 6500-6700 to be safe, but I'll see. My rev limiter is at 7000 or 7200 (I can't remember) and I have tagged it a handful of times because the factory tach is so slow or inaccurate. Now that I'm going to an extremely light clutch it would be a lot worse.

Maybe mount it up through a hole drilled into the bottom of the black bezel, with the light mounted flush, or almost flush with the bezel..?

Example with possible shift light locations:

99Bluz28-Just to the left to the 4 on the tach is a dead place that I was going to mount the LEDs.

I'm going to drill the dash and mount the whole assembly there. I was thinking about putting it in the pillar, but I will put it in the dash I'll just set the light at 6700 and make any changes if I need to

So is this the dead space/open spot you're talking about; at least from the back side ?

I talked to my dad about it and a guy he works with is going to cut the LEDs off the board and solder some wires on each side so I can glue them into the cluster and put the dip switch in the glove box.

I drilled the holes today for the light, I'm going to use a small hole saw on the actual cluster. The LEDs will be glued to the bezel.

I'm looking forward to the pic black and pink z28. I would like to see where you have yours. On my LT1 cluster I think I picked one of the better spots.
