Default How often?

How often should you wax a car? Mine is no longer garaged and I feel like I end up waxing it more than I should but I do live in sunny Florida.

Depending on if you are using a wax or sealant and where you live anywhere from 3-5 months.

You can over wax your car, after multiple layers build up it will start to make the paint look dull. If you strip the wax off everytime then re wax it thats a different story but that just seems like a lot of work.

Also claying will help your wax/sealant last longer too. For maintenance claying use a fine or ultra fine grade. Some medium grades will leave marring which will require a light polish.

Wash (or wet and wipe) once a week and wax usually 3-4 times a year. Car does not see rain if I can help it.

I see your point but I would think it would be minuscule if any would be removed when you are washing. My guess is wax/sealant manufactures take washing into consideration when they give recommendations for how long their product lasts.

Every 2-3 months will be good. Washing it every weekend will help meanwhile.

Sounds stupid but wash it with dish soap to take off old oils and wax then switch to car soap then wax comes out amazing

Also in between wax jobs use that quick detail stuff it makes it look like it was just waxed and u can do the car in under 5min

There's no need to do that everytime.

The only real true sign of how your wax is holding up is to watch your water beads when you are washing the car.

If the beads are still nice and small, then your wax is still doing it's job. Once the beads start to grow larger and the water begins to cling to the paint, then it's time for another coat.

As mentioned above, too much wax will have negative effects on the appearance of your paint. Only do it when needed.

couple of years ago i Ziano'd the Corvette and the wax lasted a LONG time. Alittle over a year and was an outside car. I'd wash it almost every Sunday and it kept on shining no problem. The truck on the other hand.... it gets washed when it rains outside LOL

i did all of it by hand. it's not hard and is simple to do. maybe on a sunday or something doing the whole wash claybar wash wax thing and be good for a long time. like i said all i ever had to do was just wash it and the shine stayed strong.

i did it by hand btw because i didnt want to buy a buffer if i wasnt going to be using it all the time anymore

Yeah i think im going to pick up the zaino kit and give it a shot, it seems very concentrated and easy to wipe off? I don't own a garage so anything I'm looking to do has to be done in an efficient manner.

Like Nick said, your car will let you know when its time to wax. Mine stays in garage so usually a full clay once a year and wax maybe twice??

while i was in Ca the car only went in a garage on weekends. during the weekday it stayed outside in a dirt "parking lot" with the marine layer coming in every night at around 3am and people driving up and down the parking lot the car would be dirty with dust again inside of an hour.
