That's amazing. I've considered Maaco in the past but have always been way too afraid to give them a try. From what I've heard though you can keep even a cheap paint job looking decent just by taking the care to clean and wax it regularly. I don't know how true this is, but it certainly can't hurt.

I hear ya. But honestly, the $3K+ paint jobs won't be single stage hack jobs (not saying that this one is, but I find it very hard to believe that the OP got a QUALITY sand, prep, and paint for $470.) I'd be interested to hear what kind of "body work" Maaco did prior to painting. God only knows what kind of products you're getting for your money, but I have a hard time imagining them being high quality.

$4K+ paint jobs include all the labor to do the job right, and a brand name paint/clear (Dupont, PPG)

If the OP is happy then that's all that matters today. But I hear you. When I did my car material alone was way way way way over $470.00. Granted red is $$$ and doesn't cover no where near single stage black lol but a gallon of just red was $490. Add sealer, reducer, clear, activator. And people wonder why great paint jobs cost 7k-8k

I agree.

I've been contemplating a color change, only issue is the colors I'm interested are all over $600/gallon!

I've been bit by the mystichrome bug.

Just a fair word of warning, I wouldnt put any product on that paint for about a month... it needs a chance to fully cure. Maaco did mine to and ive had great results, looks good man!

Updated with pics. I was hoping for better quality. My phone kept getting out of focus as I got closer, the rear picture is the most grainy but I think the other ones came out okay. And yeah I need to get new rubber trim all around lol.

Thanks! Yeah I really like black on black. In my opinion it makes the car stand out more than the stock chrome.

Wow, for under $500 that looks amazing! I'd make sure to wax the car pretty often though, I imagine the California sun isn't kind to cars with single stage paint.

Dude I hate to be a buzzkill, but I had a 96 Z28 painted by Maaco. It was a 2000.00$ job and couple months later was bumped in the rear and a HUGH patch flaked off and then you could see it was paper thin. Your car looks good but for me, Maaco is a no go ever again.

I'm with witelife..... Looks fantastic Right Now. Their jobs are so cheap, bc they do very little prep work. It will be flaking and bubbling within the year, sorry. Enjoy it while u can tho. Had them paint my 3rd gen GTA back in day. Did the above within months..... That whole "get what you pay for" thing. Maaco is good for making a car look good that you're looking to sell quickly, bout it.

Lol I have no doubt about it bubbling/flaking off, but with a 2 year warranty on it I don't mind. I'll be graduating Fall 2014 as a civil engineering major and I already have a job in my field so by that time I figured I would have more than enough to get a legit paintjob

Quality of work from ANY place can always vary. Used to be friends with a local Maaco manager. Their main paint line was nason, which is a lower priced Dupont poduct. Most of my ride in the photobucket link is the more expensive dupon chroma bc/cc. The front end is nason single stage with nasons high solids clear. The bedcover & tailgate is Nason single stage only. All were painted , but also colorsanded & buffed by me. They all look similar to the casual glance. The single stage only is actually BLACKER, especially at night, without the clear. Downside is it doesn't stay as clean as clearcoated.

To anyone considering a Maaco job, I'd say check out the local shop's work & see what it would cost to have them do a little better job with a little thicker paint coverage. Our local Maaco does some pretty good work for the price which includes mine & a few co-worker worktrucks. If you can remove some stuff, extra clean&de-wax the car, especially in crevasses, & possibly do some scuffing yourself, you may come out better.

They have many "packages". Pay 300 for the whole car and you may get a crap job. Spend 3 grand and your going to get a much nicer paint job.

Honestly all you did was make it harder for the next shop that paints it. I'd fully stripe it if I was painting it for you.. You can't do any work over that job. You have to take it all off. At that point use aircraft remover first. Cheap now will cost you much more later.
