White.Lightning's Detail/Correction Thread
Hey guys. I decided to make this thread since a few people recommended I do so, to show my results from when I detailed my car. A couple months ago I got my brand new Porter Cable PX7424XP and accessories out to detail my car for the first time using a machine polisher. I must say, the PC7424XP is worth every penny.
Here is a run down of the process and supplies:
Wash w/ dawn & Dry
Clay bar & Dry
Tape off various parts of car- molding/etc
Orange pad w/ Meguiars M105
White pad w/ Meguiars M205
Meguiars Gold Class Carnauba paste wax, hand applied
And here are the pictures. The main reason I tackled this project was a collection of dirt between the spoiler and hatch, as well as oxidation on the sail panel. So I pulled the spoiler and got to work!
Dirt
That's what happens with 100k miles and 15 years of use. Here you can see I removed the major dirt. I took a soft bristled brush and gently loosened the bigger pieces of dirt. Then I took a bunch of paper towels and sprayed them with simple green and gently wiped up the remainder of the dirt. I was careful not to let this nasty dirt scratch the hatch paint. Here is the hatch with the dirt wiped off- you can see the marring on the paint from the spoiler and/or dirt.
Here is the same area post detailing (M105/M205) and most of the marring was removed.
Same with the hatch, removed the dirt and detailed the underside of it
No more dirt between the spoiler and hatch!
Oxidation before
No more oxidation!
Post detail, garage pics
And here are some recent outside pics at the Race Proven Motorsports Dyno Day. The paint was blinding in the sun.
