Full wetsand and buff, 2000 Camaro with fresh Hugger Orange paint.
This ia a buddies car, it will be a Berger clone when done he has the Fikse FM 5's for it also. This is what the car will look like when done.........
Car has fresh paint with 3 coats of clear, orange peel was fairly bad all over the car with some trash.
This will not be a show car but a daily driver that see's some road course duty.
I explained to him that if we remove all the orange peel aka "slick" it would be more likely to damage the paint(scratches etc). Orange peel is like a truck bed coating in a sense as it acts as a paint protector in a lot of ways.
Yes cars look killer slicked out, this car will look killer when done and have plenty of clear left for future correction.
I wish I would have taken more before photos of the runs and bad orange peel spots, can't seem to get in the habit of that.
We are not done just yet, the hood is buffed I will work on it more today.
We wet sanded by hand with 2000 paper. I used PC 7424XP with LC CCS orange pad with M105 then M205. I tried a Surbuff pad on the hood but it packed up quickly and will stay with the orange LC CCS pads.
Here it is on it's maiden voyage after reassembly.
Wet sanding
2x2 test spot on the door with M105 only.
Hood left side M105 only
Hood done
Will post more as I progress.
More pics
M105 stage is done, will 205 it tomorrow.
Finished product. No wax on the car as we have to let the paint out gas for 30 days.
First coat of wax after stripes were put on.

Car looks great! I have a pewter '01 SS that I would love to paint hugger orange. Question for you on using the PC 7424xp on the trunk. Do you have to remove the spoiler to get under it or can it be done on the car?

If you have a factory paint job I would say do not attempt this unless you are very experienced.
5-8mils or less is very very tricky, I would not attempt it. I have done "spot" wet sanding on factory paint but not a whole car. There is really no reason to wet sand and buff a factory paint job.
Why would you want to?

You would be amazed at what a good detailer can do when doing a paint correction.
I would not sand on a factory paint job, a guy with a buffer that knows what he is doing can make it look like this car without wet sanding in most cases.
This car was wet sanded because of orange peel issues and runs in the new paint job, and thats the only reason.

I gotcha. Thanks for the info!!
Any kind of product recommended for buffing to bring back some luster?

Wooow, that looks fantastic. If thats the 99 HO paint code mixed to spec, I have never seen HO pop like that. In the shaded pics its looks like the 99 color, but in the sun pics it almost looks like House of Color Tangelo Pearl. Pretty impressive for a non-metallic color.
