I am ready to start detailing under the hood, and am not sure how to best start. I'll eventually put sealant (Klass all in one) on them, but don't want to grind the crud further into the paint. Advice before I start please.

Sealing is not really an option because that paint is not cleared. I recently cleaned mine up. Simple green would not touch the dirt build up but I found Meguiar's D101 all purpose cleaner at full strength worked really well. I let it dwell for a couple minutes then hit it with a boars hair wheel brush. Rinsed it with a light stream of water and dried it with a waffle weave microfiber.

I used a paint polish/sealer combo to clean mine up.

I use Meguiers APC in those areas and various detailing brushes. After clean , I used Zaino AIO on the uncleared portions under the hood. It makes clean up much easier.

Meguiar's APC is an excellent choice for cleaning an engine bay (I use APC+) project.
