Default Power Antenna

I started my car today and as the antenna was extending, there was a major grinding sound. Now the antenna will not go down. Is this the whole motor or some other "portion" Help.
If its the motor, what is the part number?

I think it comes as a whole unit. DO NOT BUY AFTERMARKET like the units for sale at RK Sport, they are crap. I bought one and to think I could have just wiped my *** with that hundred dollars and flushed it instead! oh well, maybe next time :-)

Its sounds like might be toast.

With the car off, have you tried to gently pull it up or push it down? If it eventually "catches" and goes down, then it may just need to be lubed up. Otherwise, it may be time for replacement. If the car is still under warranty, then this may be covered.

Here is a site on how to install it. The site is about how to install it in a Camaro, which didnt some with a power antenna stock, but it should still be of some help.

You probably just need a new antenna Mast.

I'd guess it was the mast that broke off, usually at the base. Mine just did this recently, I cut the plastic mast out, pushed the antenna down, and unplugged the motor. Great "apperance" mod, and the radio stations still come in fine.

Easy part to replace if you want to go that route. Only $70 at gmpartsdirect.
