Default Removing side strips and name badges...

Hey, can someone give me a step by step procedure for removing the door strips and Trans Am badges from the doors? I want to do this without ruining anything so I can use them again years down the road...

Well I removed my door moldings last week what I did was used a hair dryer to heat up an edge on the molding to get a grip and carefully just pryed the rest off, this way the adhesive comes off all together.

The little residue that was left I used a "small" amount of WD40 on a cloth and rubbed it off.

hair dryer does wonders. Just don't focus the heat in one spot for too long. Also, fishing line or something similar can help you get an edge peeled up to start from. From start to finish it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes to do both sides. Then just use a bug/tar remover or WD40 or the like to get the glue off and then wash the bitch to get all that crap off. I did mine the night I brought my 2002 WS6 home and it took maybe 2-3 spot checks over the following week to get every bit of the goo off and for it to be perfect.

Fishing line is awesome for big projects like the door molding. Hair dryer (or preferrably heat gun) are great for quick, smaller spots. I'd use bug and tar remover as it will not leave a residue that needs to be washed immediately.

At 50K miles, I just pulled them off in the heat and used goo-gone to get off the residue last week. For the tape from the molding I used my thumb and 'rolled' it off. Blisters on both thumbs for 3 days but hey, the sacrifices we make...

The goo-gone is fine; I use it all the time to remove tree sap. I still have to Zaino where the badges and molding were , as I already have 30+ coats on the rest of the car, but it's not like you can tell where the badges and molding were.

I tried to do it with my TA and I had grooves left behind from where the strips were. I don't know if I just had bad paint or what. But yeah, I had to put everything back on because it looked so bad. I made a post a couple weeks back on the topic if you want to check it out...

once i got it started, i just ripped them off (no heat gun or goo-gone). most of the adhesive pulled off with the badges/molding. the rest just peeled right off. *shrug*

Thumbs up

hey guys thanks for all the help...I washed the car then ripped those suckers off, then rolled the rest of the adhesive off with my fingers, used some scratch remover to get the goo off, then waxed the car and it looks great! never would know they were there
