0000 steel wool with soapy water has always worked for me. Make sure to rinse the area well to get rid of any loose wool that comes from the pad. Other wise you'll spend some time removing rusty specs a day or two later.

I have had good results just using a cheap paint polish and a clean pad with my Porter Cable. I haven't had to deal with anything that the polish would not take off.

I wash it with soap then clay it. After that wash again then Apply the Zaino Glass cleaner. After the Zaino id follow it up with Adams glass products. Your windows will look new

BINGO!
OP, what have you tried so far to remove them?
I've had great luck with Glass Cleaner and #0000 Steel Wool and our Paint Polishes with a cordless drill.
Above and beyond what has been mentioned here, you can use a product called Cerium Oxide and Bronze Wool Pad, that's the MOST aggressive approach. It makes an UNBELIEVABLE mess, but it will knock out even the worst etching in glass.

Made a huge mistake going this route years ago and it marred the **** out of all of my windows.
Try CarPro Ceriglass + carpro rayon pads, or duragloss nu-glass. Both have worked very well for me. I also have had success with a compound like Meguiars 105.

I mentioned Car Pro's Water Spot Remover earlier in the thread. I wanted to show a pic of how well it works. I just got done with a full correction and coating on a 98' Cobra that had HORRIBLE water spotting everywhere especially on the glass. Prior to getting this product from Corey to remove water spots this bad I would have had to polish them out. This took care of it.

I tried EVERYTHING to get rid of water spots from my windows, with no luck. Before just sending it to a professional detailer, I tried a highly reviewed item off Amazon called Spot-X Hard Water Stain & Spot Remover with GREAT SUCCESS. Here are some before/after shots:
My windows literally look brand new. I'm shocked how effective this stuff is. I cleaned the windows with Sprayaway right before using Spot X and after using Spot X this is how much crud came off

I did it by hand, took me couple of hours to do sides, windshield, hatch and T-Tops. It comes with 2 applicator pads, similar to scotchbrites. You start by getting the window wet with some water. Then you get the pad damp and sprinkle some powder on the window and the pad which after some rubbing makes a thick paste (you gotta get the mixture right, too much water and it won't remove anything). Work on the window for about 10-20 min then just buff it off with a microfiber towel to reveal shiny new glass
