Default Detailing and scratching the car.

I looked for a sticky before I posted this, but didn't see one.

I am using a micro fiber towel and the car detail spray to clean up the car. The car sits in the garage and doesn't see rain, so it doesn't get dirty enough to actually wash it. Anyway, when I am cleaning the car, I am still getting small scratches. I use the same towel and spray on my 81 Z28 and 13 Chevy Truck, and I don't get the scratches like I do on my WS6. What do you guys suggest I start using?

A better Microfiber. If it's EVER been used or washed, it can scratch the finish. Even cheaper new ones can scratch your paint as well.

Look into a bottle of Ultima Waterless Wash Plus + Concentrate. I've been using it on my Black 98 Z since I detailed it two yrs ago. No new swirls or scratches. About $18 bucks for a16 oz bottle that uses 1/2 oz to 22 oz of water into a spray bottle. Best and cheapest that I have found. And like others say a clean micro fiber towel that is only used for that one time then washed!

Any array of waterless/rinseless products should do the trick.

Are you using a quality microfiber, as in not one from walmart or autozone?

Even if the car doesn't see rain, if it's getting driven enough on weekends ect detail spray isn't going to be enough.

I use Adam's, they are a sponsor. Their waterless wash or new rinseless wash are great products.

First thing, I don't use the towel twice. But on the other hand, I did get them from Sams. These are the same ones I used on my truck and car with no problems. I noticed Walmart had a better type of microfiber. I'll try that one, then rob a bank to buy the Adams stuff. This is the stuff my brother has. My avator is what it looked like after using his Adams cleaning stuff one day. I would like to take the car and have it recleared. But I am sure it wouldn't be something the wife would let me do it.

I never use a towel on the car unless I'm applying detail spray or removing polish. Even if your car sits in the garage it collects dust, and dust will scratch. I have no experience with any waterless wash product but id just wash the car if it were me. your car is black and will show everything. I would say it is probably the towels though.

I bought these.

I would also recommend you use a waterless or rinsless wash if you have heavy dust on the car. If it is light dust then detail spray is ok.

Turtle wax offers a nice rinseless wash. You can pick it up locally at autozone for about $8. Look up the Gary Dean method when using a rinseless wash.

Just my opinion but I ALWAYS use water. Lubrication is your friend. If you have EVER dropped the microfiber on the floor then throw it away. Check out /Drive Clean on youtube. The host Larry is a detailing legend and you can surely find the best ways to deal with anything wash related. On that show. I don't trust waterless wash products. (I have never used them either though).

One way or another waterless wash will cause miner scratches to a point, when I detail my car I will go threw about 15 micro fibers between a polish/glaze then wax, don't re-use micro fiber cloths, use many clean ones.

What kind of MF towels and detail spray are you using? MF towels that Auto Zone, Advanced, etc sell are from China and are crap. The best towels come out of Korea. What some companies are doing now are importing MF from Korea and making it in China to help keep the cost down.

Detailing.com has good MF towels for a lot cheaper than Autogeek and the like, but they are the exact same towels. Their white utility towels are cheap and very soft.

To wipe off detail spray I really like the gray towels with the black silk border.

If you want the absolute best towels they are Microfiber Madness. Corey at Car Pro sells them. They are imported from Germany and are by far the best towels I've ever used. It's hard to convey how much better they are.

I personally like, love actually, Adam's Detail spray. It's super slick, easy to wipe off and adds some gloss.

How you wipe the car off and how you fold the towel both are important also.

If the car is really dusty you might want to look into using ONR waterless wash or the "Gary Dean" wash method.

I hope this helps some. Hopefully I didn't come off condescending like I apparently have in other posts here recently.

I forgot to add Ultima Waterless Wash Plus + is also good which I think was mentioned earlier.

Also when you dry your MF towels use low heat or air dry. Using too much heat makes the polyester dry out and get hard which will lead to scratches.

Zaino Bro's "edgeless microfiber" are my poison, best of the best right there imo. And try their "Z8 Grand Finale Seal Spray" for in between polishes/waxes.... just love their products all round

These towels are the best!!! Only microfiber I've ever used that actually builds static to lift the dust, they work very good. Also washed mine and they still work great.

Your towels are the source of the damage you're seeing, I guarantee it!

MF towels are made in two places in the world, China and South Korea. The ones you can find at auto parts stores and big box retailers are the made in chain junk ones that can and will scratch your paint.

The ones from South Korea are the best you can find, and certainly come at a premium price point...but can be washed and reused for years at a time.

I'll let you guess where we get ours.
