Default Which HID kit

Looking for more of a quality HID Kit. Tired of the cheapo eBay stuff lol. 5000k H1 Bulb type. Opinions on these two choices:

retrofit source, no question about it, you'll see quicker "warm up" time and better overall quality.

the others look like overpriced ebay crap.

I have the DDM Tuning kit. It's cheap and has given me a solid 6 months of great use, still going strong.

I understand people don't like the idea of "cheap" products like this, and I understand that. Of the two products you mentioned, the retrofit source is hands down the best place to get HID kits and information. Go with them.

I see DDM as being like the cheaper "slim" kit in this video

sure they may work reliably but the output isn't as could as it could be.

Retrofit source has been great for me every time I've gotten anything from them. I didn't have any issues with my old Xentecs but the color of the Morimotos is better and also brighter for the same 35W level.

Yea, wish I could find the other video that really explains the reason why but here is a site that explains it:

http://lumenshid.com/ballast.html

basically #3 AC vs. DC Ballasts, generally speaking the cheaper kits are usually DC ballasts which have several major issues vs. a quality ballast like the morimotos.

hell I have some old ballasts from a 6000k JLM kit I got off amazon and those always flicker and while brighter then the halogens they replaced (on that honda) the flickering bothered me, so when my sister wrecked her scion, I pulled the ballasts off it and hooked them up to my car, instantly the flickering was GONE (this flickering is supposedly solved by adding a relay harness, to me it was a sign of crappy quality) and to my surprise the light was both brighter and whiter (like in the comparison video I posted above, but not to that extreme), those ballasts now live on in my brothers car with some cheap (sub 20 bucks) bulbs off amazon which are going on 3 years old come the end of october.

to that end I began a hunt for a "good" budget ballast and found some on amazon, the ones in this video are exactly the same as what I got:

you will see that it matches the description from the comparison video.

If I had the money I would go Morimotos for sure, but this was a budget retrofit.

I have a quick question. I have a H1 bulb and want a 5000k temperature. What is the difference between these two?

Which one be best? Or is there another option that would be best?

well thats more of a which one will WORK, if you have H1 you NEED to GET an H1 to replace it, the other is a D2S bulb which mounts COMPLETELY differently from an H1, to go to the D2S you would have to switch out your ENTIRE projector to one that uses D2S bulbs.

Also that D2S kit doesn't use AMP connectors so you would have to buy D2S to AMP adapters ti use those ballasts with any other HID bulbs should you choose to change projectors down the road.

Agreed on all counts. I have 35W 5000k and they are a slight bit more blue than I was expecting. With a higher quality ballast (or even 55W) they would whiten up a bit more. However, I only notice the blueish tint when I see my reflection or am standing outside the car, looking at the lights...while driving I see a nice cool white light.

Down the road I may upgrade, but for $60 I got my lows and fogs, immensely more output than my old halogens, and have had no flickering whatsoever. I'm happy.

If you want to spend the money, morimoto stuff is worth it. It's simply the best.
