brighter dash gauges I was reading the 8 page post on the led change and I appreciate the interest and knowledge you young men are doing with the modernization of your gauge clusters . I was going to a meeting the other night and my gauges seemed darker I know it's my age affecting my vision at night and was wondering if there was such a thing as a simple fix to brighten up the back lighting a bit . I'm getting older and I would need a 1000 power magnifier to see to solder the led's would a white background work? I need an easy fix. thanks in advance. the oldman....
For a simple solution you could just replace the instrument cluster bulbs with wled-5 bulbs from superbrightleds.com . No soldering at all. Just remove the stock lights, their held in with the twist/lock housings, pull out the 194 incandescent and push in the led.
If you have a Camaro color becomes an issue. A white led behind the stock gauge face makes a aqua type blue, nearly identical to the 2010-2015 Camaros. This is due to the blue film applied to the back of the gauge face, the yellowish light from the incandescent bulb passing thru the blue film makes the white'ish color.
If you want to keep it white, you will need to remove the blue film. Not to worry though as its not hard to do.
Heres your starting point
I saturate only the areas I want to remove with goo gone
Then use an exacto to scrape away the adhesive over the areas you want to remove color
The sand off the color film
All done

No problem...also if you don't wanna do leds you can just put brighter bulbs on there..when i bought my car the previous owner had brighter 194 bulbs in there but i think the leds look better but one advantage of the regular brighter bulbs was that they can be dimmed the leds they are pretty much always bright
