Default Porter Cable

I'm about to order the porter cable and I was just wondering where the best place to get the pads, cutting material, etc...
What the best products to use are and order to be used
and even the best place to get a porter cable. I was looking on amazom.com
Thanks

If I were you I would wait for the new Meguiar's MT300 DA. It should be out sometime at the end of December. Places are taking pre-orders for them. It's a much better DA than the porter cable. I got the chance to use it at their facility when they had a gathering to talk about their 2015 products. I will definitely be upgrading to this one and just keep mt PC dedicated for smaller pad use.

It's more ergonomic and it won't tire your hands out with the vibration.

As far as pads get the new Meguiar's 5" foam pads and their new backing plate. You can get everything in this package.

http://www.autodetailingsolutions.ne...ch-bundle.html

If you are looking for Meguiar's product recommendations send me a PM. I use their stuff and am familiar with their line.

I've been doing this for quite some time, and I use a Harbor Freight porter cable (the internet warriors will tell you it's ****, but it's not) with Adams 1 and 2 paint correction/finishing polishes. I bought their kit, which came with the color coordinated pads. That is all I've used, so I can't speak for other's products, but the Adams stuff flat out works, and it's easy to use. I finished things off with their Americana wax.

I have great results with m105 and m205.

I use a dewalt orbital buffer, my brother and I recondition and touch up cars for a dozen or so dealers in the area.

Ive tried many other compounds and polishes but I love working with the meguiars compounds. There very easy to work with, and we get great results! Plus we can buy them at any autozone, just in case we run out.

You may also want to look into the Griots Garage DA. Has more power than the PC.

I would not recommend M105 for a newbie. It has a slight learning curve. It can be frustrating to use. It dusts like crazy. I would pick up M101 instead of M105. It's a definite upgrade.

I would start off with Ultimate Compound. Don't underestimate it's capabilities.

If you get the new Meguiar's thin foam pads that I posted you may want to consider getting their D300 compound. It works well with those pads.

For a polish Meguiar's M205 would be my recommendation.

For a sealant it's a toss up between M21 and Ultimate wax and for a carnauba my favorite is M26.

Good info in this thread! I have a PC that I picked up used but haven't really used it yet.

The paint on my Ws6 isn't the original paint, but it is base clear. It has an amazing shine to it, but is some spots it almost has a hazy finish. Would you suggest the M105 and 205 to get haze/swirl marks out? Its black so it shows everything.

I use the Mothers clay bar and Zanio wax right now but I'd like to put the PC to work.

yes that will work very well, I use a Milwaukee rotary for paint correction and m105 and m205.
Since it has came out it's the only stuff I will use, m205 is a very good polish and sometimes you can get away with m205 only

It is always recommended to do a test spot with the least aggressive combination. Every car is different.

If you do go with M105/M205 then I would start off with M205 on a polishing pad. If you need to get more aggressive then go to M105. Just be aware that M105 can be finicky when using it.

From my experience polishing my 02 SS and my dad's 02 Z28, these cars have hard paint. I ended up using Meguiar's D300 compound and their microfiber cutting pads. Foam pads were not giving me the correction I was looking for. I followed up with M205 on a polishing pad.

To through another recommendation to polishes, Mothers paint pro system is underrated. It works very well. I would say it rivals M105/M205 but it the compound won't dust like M105.

I agree grab the Harbor Freight.

I don't agree on the Adams stuff. It is just Chemical Brother with the prices jacked way up.

HD Cut and Polish all the way with M101 for the hard stuff. M105 likes to dust, I do have some 205 laying around but I hardly ever use it. I really think HD Polish is one of,if not THE best polish out right now. Everyone has their own opinions on LSPs but I personally have never cared for Zaino.

I have been using alot of Optiseal and HD Poxy lately. Poxy would look great on your color. But it really all just depends on how well you finish it when polishing. No sealant or wax is going to make up for a crappy finish on the clear.

Edit: The Collinite 845 in the picture above is great for engine bays.

Adams is decent but for the price you can find something better. If you are really interested in Adams, I have some Adam's stuff for sale. They are looking for a good home. PM me.

You are right about everyone having their personal preference on LSPs. There are so many good ones out on the market.

I've switched from using Adam's products to using Poorboys stuff. Detailed image always really good prices/sales on stuff and I couldn't be happier with the products.

You do know that Chemical Guys, Adams, and Poorboy's get almost all their products from the same company, Warner Chemicals right? In fact Chemical Guys doesn't really get their products from them, that is their own label. They have private label services where I could pay and they would label it "6speed turbo wax" and it be the same thing.

This might stir up a ton of **** though.

Didn't know that nor do I care. I do however know that in my personal experience, Poorboys products achieved far better results than my Adams. Im just a normal guy who has OCD REALLY bad when it comes to my cars, lol!! No professional

Do you know this as fact or presenting it as just hearsay? Just because companies use the same manufacturer does not mean they don't have things made to their own specifications, but I'm sure you know this as it seems you must be an industry insider.

Is Adams the cheapest or best, no. However, I've never had their products not do what they are supposed to do and do it fairly well. Everything goes on great, and comes off even easier. I enjoy supporting a small American business who has some of the best customer service in the industry. It also doesn't hurt that the owner Adam is a decent guy.

To get on topic and to the OP, bypass the PC and save for a flex 3401. It's worth the extra money. If you need something and need it now, get a griots garage PC (gg6) as its more powerful than the PC and griots has a lifetime warranty.

It is a fact, I was told this from two different sources. One of them works for one the companies mentioned and reps for them. The other is a very well respected detailer is California local to Chemical Guys (Warner) home location and is involved in the product market. The detailing product industry is not very big. There is a crap load of re-branding re-bottling that goes on. Some of it would shock you. Only a handful of these companies have the capacity to make their own. Any modern detailing product worth a crap is going to come off easy if you are using it correctly. The days of a super-hard paste wax you can barely get off have been gone for a while now....

I'm just trying to save you guys a little cash.

If you want to buy their stuff, carry on

I'm just saying, I've tried alot of different products and I can think of 2 products that are Chemical Guys that I couldn't do without. Out of how many?

Flex 3401 is awkward and overrated IMO, just get the Harbor Freight one and call it a day. When you order some pads make sure they are 5" and get a 5" backing plate. 6" is a little big for something like the HF or PC.
