Default Clear corner lights or black ones?

Quick question guys:

I have an NBM ss camaro I am doing the whistler mod on this weekend. Since I have the headlights out I figured I would take the chance to change my corner lights as well. my question is should I go with clear corners or should I get the ones that have a clear lens with black background? If I had a lighter colored car I would go with the black backing but since my car is so dark I don't all the details to sink into the vehicle like a blob. Anyone with navy blue camaro pics would be a help. I also have polished ZR1's as well so people with polished wheels could be even better but not needed.

Stay with you stock ones unless you like blowing bulbs all the time and melting those cheap *** aftermarket ones. Ive bought three pairs of them and every single one of them have blown bulbs and melted the housings. And thats without even mentioning the fact that the aftermarket housings wont allow for reuse of the socket gaskets in charge of keeping water out.

They are a great idea if you are going full LED's in the corners but if you are sticking with halogen bulbs, DONT DO IT.

Yep. The black housings I had kept blowing bulbs. I finally switched back to stock. When I had the black housings out, I happened to notice the inside was literally melting! Screw that...

But if you really want a darker corner lens, go with the "smoked" ones. They're the same black housing, but the part around the bulb is chrome. Kind of like the whistlered headlights. I've had these in for a while, no melted housings.

Personally, I think you should go chrome.

Depo brand black ones here with the reflector in the back of them. Haven't blown any bulbs.

I bought corner lens covers from Hawks third Gen. I like how I can take them off at any time.

Is it possible to get that GTO label off with paint thinner or anything like that? That label just doesn't jive with my vision of "Clean" for the car

Yup. It's just a sticker. I took it off after the picture was taken.

Curious as to how those lens Covers go on. Do you have to take the corner lights out or do they just slide in the space between the corner lens and the bumper?

They slide in one end and have special velcro on the other end.

Stock.

As mentioned the aftermarket versions melt and fill with moisture.

Blacked out is just too much overkill, I'd like to see a full led version come out through then I'll spring up some dough

maybe I will buy the shades or stay stock. I know the navy blue cars are tricky because sometimes it almost looks black which means anything black just sinks in and makes a blob : /

You want these if you want to avoid leaks.

Now I know this may be a dumb question but do you drive your car in the rain? Do you have the lower splash guard still on your car, or is the moisture simply from washing your car?

I had problems with melting, leakage, and blown bulbs on the black ones in the OP, but the Depo ones that Guz linked to I had no issues with on my old car.

Now I'm just running stock corners that I tinted. They aren't totally blacked out but they aren't that glaring orange either.

It's an out side car. The problem I was having is that none of the previous housings I've had would fit snugly with the stock socket gasket/weatherstripping. The socket would either fit only without a gasket or much to snuggly that the gasket would deform. A slight rain and moisture gets in.

Yeah mines a garage queen, but I think I'm gonna go the way of external tint. I think it will help out the look. Like Sparky said, as long as it isn't just that orange (even though technically orange and blue are complimentary on the color wheel...I went to art school. Had to come out learning something, right?)

After going through a couple of aftermarket sets I've settled for VHT'd Stock corners. No more leaks and cracks from daily use
