Default Shifter **** with button, what are you using it for?

I'm wanting to get a new shifter **** and was looking at the ones with the buttons on them. I thought it would be handy but can't decide what I would use the button for, line lock, nitrous, two step...what?

What are you guys using them for?

I'd like the missile launcher!
Does the button get in the way at all? Like does it make the shifter feel awkward in your hand?

after wife drove car one day and accidently pushed linelock button and couldn't back out of parking space and called me wondering why car wouldn't move (I thought oh no another trans!) I wired a power on/off switch with 2 lights when button is powered and on.

This is what I'm wondering about, accidental engagements on whatever is powered by it.

Always put a on off switch in the line locks. That being said it should have been fine if she released the button.

Mine is a M6 and is on a Jeg's Pistol Grip for line lock. Mostly used on mine to hold it for launch and a trigger for the AEM data recorder time of launch. I haven't gotten that far though as it is half wired up so far.

I could totally see my wife doing that. Another reason she refuses to drive the car , saves us all a little headache

mine is a on/off button not a momentary switch so when she hit switch it was locked (must of been holding down brake when putting into park and hit button to lock front brakes) it was a quick fix over phone just to have her push button again but when she said I put it in reverse and wouldn't move I thought it was another trans since this is the 3rd one. I thought it was pretty funny but she was pissssed! I thought I would use as a learning experience and be able to turn off power to switch just in case I pushed by accident and locked brakes open possibly? or something worse ? as far as feel what shifter/button setup you using? I will try to get some pics up later, anyone else have some pics?

Default Wiring

In your installation you could put a spring loaded to on switch in and call it good. Most put a momentary that only completes the circuit when the toggle is on. Mine will be something in between. Toggle to complete to the line lock but still trigger the ALky Control interrupt and Data Recorder time spot any time.

This way I can hold the button for any roll on data start places without having the solenoid engaged. I have idiot lights as well to ensure the solenoid has no activation. Red Light at 10 o'clock on the instrument cluster bezel facing down but easily seen for LL. Hid the Alky Control on at about 2 o'clock the opposite, low methanol level hidden in the ac duct looking at me. 2nd fuel pump activation green led hidden in the dome light housing facing forward so I can see it in the mirror.

Just saying that there is a limitless nerd angle you can exploit if so desired!

tried to keep mine simple the switch turns power on/off (red light comes on when powered) and green light is when linelock off and ready to roll. I turn off power after burnout and time to turn on the NITROUS!!!

Just be glad I don't have the patience to post some pictures. It doesn't look very sane right now because I am wiring the Data Recorder and line lock in. Probably going to get on it this morning. Now I am adding this to the mix to slick up the installation. Sadly I have already made and installed several mini versions of my own and then my brother gave me this painless block from his left over Jeep work. Two steps forward and one back. You ought to see his swap of a LS1, 4l60, Atlas, 8.8 Rear and Dana 44 into the Jeep.
