My cowl around where the windshield wipers are is fading.(the black plastic ) Is there a way to bring this back to life ?
Or can this be painted to stay nice looking?

Use SEM trim black. It sprays out nice and even - I did this on my last car.

"Back to black" works good but don't use it if you might want to paint it.

Yep works well. The silicone in it will make it a nightmare in the future if you want to paint it!

It will last a little while, how well is paint going to stick though, and it will look way worse if it starts pealing off

Trim restorer such as GTechniq would bring life back into the trim for quite a while. But it is costly.

If you do decide to plastic dip it or spray paint it. Make sure all traces of tire/trim shine are removed first. Isopropyl alcohol diluted should be able to make sure the trim is clean and free of contaminants

Just grab a can of satin black krylon fusion. I painted mine after I couldn't get the rustoleum "restore black" plastic dye to have an even enough look. A couple light coats of the satin krylon fusion and it looks like fresh plastic. It was over a year since I used the restore black and I rubbed it down really good with some wax and grease remover before painting.

Definitely paint it, just scuff it before hand and wipe it down. Prep is what makes a paint job stick.

how bad does it look OP?

Mine looked pretty faded a first, but I started using VRT dressing from adams polishes whenever I wash the car. It comes out looking really good and stays on for a good while. I also use it on other plastics trims on my truck and it really works wonders.
