Paint chipping off! need some advice/help
at some point i'll get the car repainted but that's a budget all on its own
. for the time being is there anything i can do to stop the paint from chipping/flaking off? They make kits that are relatively cheap to dip the whole car.
It lasts for a while too, should give you plenty of time to save for a paint job.
They actually make the plastidip in a huge variety of colors nowadays since they're gaining popularity.
Can't wait to repaint my car to fix everything, but man it will be expensive. Gotta replace my roof panel too.

The problem is, while relatively inexpensive vs a full paint job, it's still very expensive for starting out (having to buy the sprayer and stuff), easily in the 400-500 dollar range to get the equipment and dip for the first dip job.
a cheap option (and something I did back in the day before plasti-dip was what it is today) is to remove as much flaking paint as possible (a high pressure car wash wand is a good start) then sand the edges of the paint to feather them down and tape off the area (leaving several inches of "good" paint exposed) and spray several coats of like a primer sealer or paint of your choice over the area. This worked for me when the Maaco paint job flaked of the hood of a car I bought (was painted more then a year before I bought it).
all that said, if you want a good paint job that will last, you will need to remove the current paint before you do the NEW paint job, doesn't make any sense to put new paint on top of paint that has a history of bubbling and peeling.
at that point and with the advances in plasti-dip in recent years it might make more sense to go that route.
Not as nice as a paint job but they can look very nice.
They are in the $400-$500 range which is substantially way cheaper than a good paint job, but not as good.
Catch 22 I guess.
I would recommend the plasti though, I think it looks nice.
wonder if the small portable air compressors would be enough?
